    Coconuts.

Nothing better than a milky coconut, i love them and guess it all stems back to my childhood at the 'Hoppings' Miggins and MrsQ will understand.

Other than beer nothing quenches ones thirst better than a coconut IMO.

I once got a side graze to the head from a falling one on Koh Phangan a few years back whilst lying under a tree.

In this heat coconuts are top thirst quenchers, anyone else?

Why do Thai coconuts never look like that?

Is it the whole outer shell thing that they just don't take off over here?

If yes, then why do we bother taking them off back home? Surely they'd cost more if they weighed more.

Husk on or off mate it doesn't matter. The fresher ones are green and have little meat in them but loads of milk.

    Husk on.

    Husk off.

Has anyone tried the Thai delicacy known as the coconut flower, it lives in the shell way past its sell by date and grows to about the size of a pigs kidney albeit white?

Delicious, try it if you can.

I liked the coconuts they used to sell in the UK, loads of meat in them, never liked the juice and aint impressed by the tiny little nearly meatless Thai coconuts.

The Uk ones are old and the milk is past its sell by date.
Fresh coconut milk is very refreshing especially if chilled, but not iced.

Being the only person I know that has had a coconut fall on their head....did it hurt and would it kill a child ?

If the meat is being used, the outer husks will certainly be removed.

    the best beach drink ever....

they are only meatless if they are young

if you let them get older and browner, they develop the meat

When green drink the milk and fill with rum, plug hole with a piece of wax and let sea a week, then pour it out and drink the rum, taste good but hardly any alcohol., now split it and eat the young soft meat.. WOW.

Used to do that in central/south America and Nam when we was young.

Let the coco ripen and the milk is absorbed and will produce meat and coco oil, and thats where you get shredded coconut and copra.

I won't eat anything that has a shell and that includes crab. If it evolved with that much protection I'm leaving it alone.

    Coconuts Dahran style

Get a young green one from the market.

Cut a small hole in the top

Put in a teaspoon of caster sugar and a half teaspoon of dried yeast.

Stand it ( them) in a plastic bowl and on the windowsill

After a week empty the contents into a jug

It will be a bit cloudy but don't worry!

Run the liquid through your 500W soldering iron still ( See the 'Blue Book' for instructions on making one) !

    Chill well

    Mix with orange juice.

    ENJOY !!!
