    B20,000 per night?

Today the wife got an invitation for our family to stay in Jomtien at her friend's condo. She and the daughter left this afternoon and will be back in a couple of days. I decided to stay at home in Bkk, drink beer, take care of the dog and relax. So why do I bring this matter up?

The question is both simple and yet complex. The condo that they are going to stay in normally rents to farangs for B20,000 per night. Yes, you read that right, B20,000 per night. However, since it is the low season my wife's friend offered us the condo for a few days. The owner called me and tried to convince me to go, saying that it had a jacuzzi in every bathroom, TVs throughout, a western kitchen, the list was seemingly endless. The view was fantastic, the bar was stocked and the master bed even vibrated if one was in the mood.

Now I know that there are a few rich people who visit Pattaya, but who in their right mind would spend B20,000 per night for a place to stay?

Having spent a year or so in Thailand this concept still confuses me.

I hope my wife and daughter come back...

You forgot to tell us how much you are paying. Or is that irrelevant to the question "who in their right minds"?

On the that eventful mission the missus and I took to Hua-hin many moons ago, the only place we could find were bungalows costing 35,000 per night.

Not unheard of in Thailand at all.

If it had 4 bedrooms then yes I would organise a few friends and pay that (split the costs), but it better be pretty damn good for that price.

Good point but finding four normal people who would want to go to Pattaya would be a scheduling nightmare!

    Agree with the above.

20K? A night! Holy crap! That's like almost 400 pounds! And with such things as a jacuzzi which you're bound not to use (hell, my family had a house in Cyprus with a huge jacuzzi, got used about 3 times a year). So really, what are you getting for such a price? And Jomtien....yikes!

Damn, I hate being poor! I agree with thetyim, what moron would want to stay in the Pattaya slum if they are going to spend that money. I like Pattaya but it's really only a place for wine, women, and song. The apartment might appeal to Russian mafia bosses running white meat, people shooting porno flicks or those Kuwaiti oil men who take their six wives and 15 children with them when they travel so they can block the sidewalks with all their fat asses.

As curious as a cat, I could not stand the suspense any longer. I had to see what this condo looked liked. One time we had splurged and paid B7,000 for a suite for 2 days at Hua Hin. It was big but not that fancy. So, I went to Pattaya to have a look around.

When I finally got to the condo and started towards the room, I was thinking, WTF, the old lady dragged me down here to see a condo much like her first condo in BKK we still have that is sitting empty.

So it looks like the condo has some fancy doors, so in I went.

The inside was much nicer than what I expected.

The kitchen was plenty big with an open air design throughout.

    The stove.

Plenty of room. However, the wife was wrong as the bed did not vibrate at all. Trust me on this one...

Looking from the master bedroom into the living room.
