    Khlong Toey

What do members think is the long term future for the Khlong Toey slums and market area?

Yes it does seem almost inevitable, but thirty years of successful resistance so far by slum dwellers cannot be discounted.

I live near by hope it remains,we shop there 3/4 times a week for fruit and and meat.Have used the market for more than 10 years always have good produce on sell.
It will be reduced in size but will survive, other wise the market workers will close the airport for 1 month until someone listen to them.
Which will please the port authority, because everyone will arrive on boats.

Like every other inner-city slum or ghetto area, it's appreciating land value will shrink it out of existence. Just a matter of time.

I know it will probably go altogether in time. But where are we going to do our shopping.and more important where we all the people who work there go.
Here a bit of an insight to its past.
The history of Klong Toy, Mosquito Bar, Mariners Club.

I can remember when the Klong Toey slums spread all the way back too Asoke intersection where the big Seafood Restaurant was on the corner. This area housed most of the slappers from Soi Cowboy and the sukhumvit area.

Also the Queen Sirikit Centre, lake and park was originally a huge garbage dump and the lake was filthy and stank like hell.

I suppose it will disappear and after time especially when Bangkok's economic recovery happens and within the next 20 years.
