Are cats useful?

I( seem to have inherited a cat. Wanders into the house like she owns the place on a regular basis. Shoo'd her out a few times but she keeps comin back. I suspect a previous tenant who left 6 months ago.

Should i discourage this beast or is it worth cultivating a friendship. Do they do anything useful, or is she gonna be like any other female, high maintenance, frustrating and mentally challenging?

First have her fixed, and then don't feed her nothing at all, then you will see if she is worth anything.

They make a great chicken substitute when yr a bit hard up, or you could make a sort of coonskin hat out of it.

Chass, how old is the cat? If it is a baby, then I'd say that you'd have your hands full. Trust me, it is like having a baby. They will keep you good company though.

Who's cat is it? It may be lost? Just see if it continues to come back. If you feed it, you'll never get rid of it. Every cat has their own personality, so you will only know if you keep it as a house cat. Now obviously this isn't a house cat, if it is wondering in.

I have a nice red Thai dog from a hill tribe lady and she kills anything that comes in the yard except Takaps, Cobras, chickens and cats do not stand a chance and she will kill rats and mice, but doesn't eat anything she kills, she just does it cause she is a female.
And she is worth her feed just for keeping the fucking cats and chickens away.

Cat failed to answer this question under interrogation, but it is not lost as it keeps finding my front door.

I had a Border Collie from 7 weeks until she died aged 13 last year.
I had a hamster called ceasar when i was 9 yrsd old.
I had a goldfish once but it escaped.

Yes, dip the cat in a bit of leather oil and rub gently. Watch out for the claws though.

I'm a bloke so I don't know much about giving birth, but I'd have thought that childbirth was a tad more painfull than having a cat. Of course giving birth to a cat would probably be a bit scratchy I suppose.

Had a cat turn up one evening, never saw the cat before, had a look around the kitchen, and eventually settled into the washing machine. In the morning we had a cat and 2 very fresh kittens that looked like a pair of sausages. The following day, mummy cat stashed her litter in the sock drawer and buggered off out. She returned an hour later with a large fish. This happened every morning for a couple of months, untill the sausages were old enough to accompany mum on her 5.00 AM jaunt. I followed, curious to see where the fish came from. The market. Soon as the stallholders back was turned, the feline thief nipped in and nicked a fish, then trotted back home with the sausages and myself in tow. Ended up that the cat cost me a small fortune over the years, as the surviving sausage grew into a big beast of an animal that was charged for travelling on the ferry, the coach and the train, to say nothing of the vets bills. Thankless bastard left one day, never to return. Usefull? Not really, but a good companion for three years.

I far prefer dogs to cats but don't dislike cats as pets.

Our guard adopted one (a female) and now we have about 10 youngens patrolling the Moo Ban.

Yes they do keep the snakes away although I have seen more snakes now than I have ever seen mainly because they have cleared acres of land next to my property and for the new Tollway.

Tom cats are a pain in the arse at night when they start their chest beating though and their urine territory markings (which stink) always seem to be next to the front door!

As far as I am concerned "dogs rule" just like "vegemite"!
