Are Aussies the worlds worst tourists?

I saw this on a news report today

New figures from the Department of Foreign Affairs show that Australians are getting into more trouble abroad than ever before. In 2008-09, 970 Australians were arrested abroad, and there have been 790 arrests already this year.
Ah the bad Aussie tourist. If you've never come across one then you probably are one! There is nothing quite like bumping into "Wozza" (or Shazza) in his (or her) [insert local beer] singlet. They're usually half sloshed before midday, wandering around looking for an "Aussie" bar "or at least somewhere that speaks bloody English!" Or somewhere that serves "real food, not this bloody [insert local delicacy] shit"
And whilst it is easy to condemn Wozza for his insensitivity to local culture and total lack of regard for those around him, is it at least worth giving him credit for heading overseas in the first place?
Thanks to cheaper airfares, Aussies are flocking overseas en masse. Over 5.9 million of us took a trip abroad last year. Will Wozza give us all a bad name?
Have you ever had to put on a fake accent while on holiday for fear of being guilty by association?

Actually, given the fact they travel a lot, I would say Aussies are amongst the worlds best tourists. Not to say there isn't the odd Ocker that makes you cringe, but definitely a small minority. Most are easy going, relaxed, and quite noticeably popular with the locals for this reason.

If you want to find out who the worst tourists are, ask the locals I reckon. Israeli's would be right up there.

Cant argue with the facts, Aussie tourists are overtaking the English in the scumbag ratio stakes.
Ive met a few of the Aussie scumbags asking where to get food and to be frank they're an embarrasment.

Thanks to cheaper airfares, the Aussie Bogans are travelling further than Bali, the Pommie Chavs are travelling further than Spain etc, etc. Unfortunately this trend will continue unless the current economic crisis can curtail their disposable income.

I would say English whingeing overseas is more off-putting than Aussie ineptitude.

German boorishness, French arrogance and American crassness are also equally, if not more, unpleasant.

I spend a lot of time convincing people I am not a Pom. Never needed to adjust my accent as my Aussie twang is not so obvious.

To be totally honest a lot of aussies that I have met in Pattaya and Bangkok are loud mouthed scum and as I sit here today I probably have only one Aussie that I would call a real personal friend and that is Bangkok Bob a member here.

Most of my real mates are Poms and generally they are gentleman even when they get a belly full of piss although I keep clear of the other Pommy scum down in central Pattaya.

Not even close. Next time you're in Bangers, check into the Grace Hotel if you want to observe the undisputed world champion worst tourists.

"The Grace Hotel popular with Arabs. And in an area where alcohol is hard to come by, the recently opened Thai-owned bar Sabai-Sabai packs in a crowd of locals, Gulf Arabs and Africans. But no pictures, please."

Stayed there in 2005, and yes it was full of Arabs, and street walkers hanging around the foyer. I would imagine the place was quite impressive in its hey day. Wasnt it quite a popular venue got GI`s who were on R&R

Bangers, the city of rapid change. All of Soi Nana North (Soi 3) is now packed with Middle Eastern and African tourists.

Some good middle eastern restaurants but don't make eye contact with other patrons. Especially the Nigerians. If you do make eye contact, he will come over and give you a sales pitch on the latest get rich "project" he is promoting.
Whenever you find yourself on the side of the majority, it is time to pause and reflect.

It was along with the Miami Hotel on Soi 13 in the 70s. Miami is now a real crapper and Grace is not a hotel where G.I.s would be in a comfort zone.

But in Thailand you can call him a Nigger and tell him to fuck off before you drag him behind your pickup truck and then hang him from a tree.

Apparently you can do that in America as well.
