TWO shot bikies told medical staff not to remove the bullets from their bodies - a move police believe was a calculated attempt to hinder their investigation.
Gypsy Joker Lennard Mark Kirby was shot three times in the chest and stomach during a gun fight at a Jandakot property on May 18. His bikie associate Alexandro John Scilio was shot once in the arm.
Today, Assistant Commissioner (specialist crime) Wayne Gregson said investigators were aware that the bullets had not been removed by medical staff and remained inside the two men.
Mr Gregson said police had applied for a search warrant to seize the bullets once they were removed during surgery, but the men refused to allow doctors to extract them.
``We have no powers to conduct intrusive surgery to get exhibits,'' Mr Gregson told
PerthNow this morning.
But Mr Gregson said the fact that police did not have the bullets to conduct ballistic examinations would not hamper the police investigation.
``We are still confident of a successful investigative outcome,'' he said.
Kirby and Scilio, both convicted criminals, were shot at a house in Peppworth Place, Jandakot during what police believe was a dispute over drugs.
Both men were taken to St John of God Hospital in Murdoch in a ute, but were later transferred to Royal Perth Hospital.
PerthNow understands both men discharged themselves from hospital, but Kirby was returned to prison because of breaches to his parole conditions.
