It's worse than you think over here.

There's talk about banning buying more than two drinks at a time, as well as queuing Post-Office style with those barriers they have, in an attempt to prevent trouble.

All those to tight-fisted to get a round in will be loving it, but I'm not happy.

If you cut those posh 70 baht beer at the local pub and drink lao kao at the corner shop as it is the local custiom you could cut your costs back to less than 10k I reckon.

The sterling has been heavily overvalued for the last 15 years so stop whining and take the bitter medicine.

Its already been taken and the pound will come back and stomp over the Euro as per usual. We have plenty of debt, yeah, but at least its our own and not piled into eastern bloc ponzi garbage like all those Euros that the Jerrys & co lent out.

I will shortly have 2 kegs of top quality beer on rotation in my kitchen.

No need to buy Thai beer ever again thankfully.

Stomp with what, what can UK export to pay of its debt?
Who can afford to import it if the sterling is so over appreciated by the financial markets that your goods becomes price wise uncompetitive?
After Thatcher closed down your mining industry, what other natural resources do you have that rightify (sp?) a strong sterling?

It is a Northern English Brown Ale,

Ingredients have to be shipped from Singapore.

^^^ Too much attention is payed to coal, fuck coal, we can make more money selling nuclear knowledge than that shit. The UK still leads the world in many areas including pharma, technology, munitions etc etc. The Uk will be fine, albiet in the latter half of next year.
The uks housing industry needs to correct, due to demand consistantly outstripping supply during normal economic cycles values will remain high, unlike the US. This will help support sterling.

Sterling was down something like 25-30% across the board, its recently rose about 7% against most currencies, due to the fact the beating it had taken factored in armegeddon in the financial industry which now seems to be off the table but still in ICU.

What I meant was that when I used to brew mi own in Uk in the 70s we used Glucose + barley

This is the natural way of making beer, no sugars (artificial)

Noooo, that thread was all about the high cost of imports, this threads about important stuff like the price of beer for uk expats living here on pensions. Besides, that thread died because its author vanished. I think he was taken away by men in white coats
I believe that the principle aspect of the thread was actually beer prices. Anyway, its (regrettably) all history for me.

White coats? Some sort of posh dinner?

Yeah, because I expect this place to be dirt cheap, if it isnt then what the hell am i doing here. Its a tatty third world environment, I'll happily pay high prices in the uk becuase the place is pristine, not a dusty ramshackle gaff like Thailand

Aaah, but Spin wasn't talking about pub prices but 7-11 prices to drink at home. When I was back in UK, I found pubs really expensive, but a lot of supermarket booze really cheap.
