    School reunions. WTF?

Its on again, so the sad feks tell me. School/class reunions, I just can't get my head around why you would want to meet up with a whole lot of people, just to compare the sum worth of your life since not seeing them. In my case its been quite a few moons. Sure, I keep in contact with a lot of good mates that I went through school with and they often call, but the school reunion 'monitor' is quite often the last person in the world you would bother with. Keeping the dream alive, maybe that was their career path but not mine. What do you think?

I nearly went to one, a few years ago

I registered for the meeting then was rung up by a woman who was my g/f for a while, she was also going

the first girl I ever fingered, I was 14, she 13

In the end I decided I would rather keep my memories than be disappointed with a matronly woman
    I have reported your post

In most cases, I think it's one upmanship. The only people that turn up are those that think they've done better or led a more interesting life & want to show off.

Yep. A blond cheerleader chick I always hated headed our reunion. I did not attend -- fek, I'm not flying halfway round the world to see a**holes. Dunno why I was invited anyway -- I never graduated from high school.
I did love Janis Joplin going back for her reunion. She was the butt of jokes at school; then she came back a star and feked with their heads at the reunion. Best nanananaNA ever.

    Reunions !
    Nah !
Keeping in touch - yes !

    My experience

Went to school in Finchley and they had an "Old Boys" association - load of wannabes and wankers ! The Old Finchleans ( OF)
Most of my mates in the 1953 intake didn't join when we left but kept in touch on rare occasions . Under the name "Old Farts" (OF)

We are /were a motley crew - ending up in all professions and trades - Head of dept for a research dept with NASA- Musician- software designer - Rabbi- car mechanic - pilot- insurance engineer- Male nurse- skipper of a trawler etc etc etc .

After the tsunami I was inundated with emails checking that I was OK ( I was running a sportfishing boat in Phuket at the time )
Told them that I was OK but mentioned that the sea gypsies had lost a lot of their boats .
Within a week - without me even suggesting anything - I had 29,000 GBP thrown at me and told to do something !!
Rebuilt half the fleet at Rawai with it and went back to UK to show them what they had done ( CD Presentation etc )
Had not seen any of them for 30 bloody years but they came from the States, Oz,Europe and Africa for the best pissup I have ever been to - stopped in UK for a month - one of the lads lent me a car for the month and another who was a manager of a Motel chain gave me free accommodation if I wanted it anywhere in UK!!!
    Keeping in touch - Yes
    Reunions - No
The official Old Finchleans were asked to contribute but declined !

PM if you are interested in a download of the CD

I went to my 20th high school reunion last Summer in the US.

I'm glad I went, but I felt a bit odd. I think it's the fact that 20 years had gone. Life goes by quickly.

This was just as Face Book was getting started, so I and the others were curious.

However, only 17% showed up for the first night, which cost $100, and more showed up the second day which was $5 at a park.

People are spread out all over the US. Only a couple are oversease, like me.

I won the award for "traveling the farthest" to get to the reunion.

    Whooppee.

    But I'm glad I went.

Just been out in Newcastle with a couple of university friends. Saw a dozen old school people in a bar I was in. Thankfully they didn't recognise me and I didn't have to feign interest in them.

A few years back I bumped into people when I was back for a holiday. They were all excited acting like they we had been great pals. One of the lads, Martin Pane asked for my email. I pointed out at that point that I was only being polite in talking to them and I had never really got on that well with them at school and saw no point in exchanging contact details and went on my way. They were taken aback a bit, but otherwise quite understanding.

Later through the jungle drums I heard that I hadn't changed much since school days.

People change so much why would you want to meet 'strangers'?

I have masturbation memories of a few girls from the 6th form and a reunion would only destroy these fantasies. They are forever 17 1/2 years old in tight uniforms in my head when they tie me up and attempt to suffocate me with their femininity.

My reunions take place over here, mainly beacause of facebook.

A lot of old friends pass through here and it's great to meet up I'm completly cut off from my home town and friends.

Last night met up with a friend who just arrived and hadn't seen for two years. He still asked for that 70 quid I owe him

Met up with another chap I went to school with and hadn't seen for over 10 years. We got on like we always did, was really good.

It's good to meet up as I like to hear the gossip from my hometown and events. Heard a great story last night of a girl I went to school with went crazy in my hometowns high street. She got thrown out of a local boozer and went too another pub and took out the pool balls and proceeded to throw them through the windows of the former.

Meeting up with old pals and school friends is always worth a chuckle. People who you weren't fond of back then ain't going to change conversation wise and not worth the effort to hook up with.

They're have a World Reunion here in June. I'm not going, it's too expensive and anyway the friends that I keep in touch with I can see any day I want. I find reunions to be a bit false, talking to people you hated as if they were your bestest friends just because you're at a reunion.
