The Thailand Pros and Cons Thread

I am starting this thread with a gripe about Thailand.

Why can't Thai businesses have regular hours of operation?

I want to ask the owner of my favorite restaurant why the sign in front of her place says, "Closed on Mondays" when its really a toss up on if she will open or not.

Shouldn't the sign say, "We might be open or we might not" The food is the best in Bangkok, but that does me no good if the place is shut up like a clam 50% of the time whenever I go there. It is a bit out of the way, but worth it IF ITS OPEN!!!

Is this place a fairy tale land or is it the real world?

How do these buffoons make it in business?

Please respond with a comment, a con or a pro.

    Here we go!!!

Why do Thais have to ride around at night with their headlamps off? Then lay on their horn when you pull out in front of them?

    Silly gits!

There are lots of Pro's in Thailand, even though it is illegal here.
Plenty of Con's too, of all nationalities.

Thailand is just too Asian for most people, including the Thai. Just ask them, they would never lie.

Example, a nice place opened just around the corner from me, nice people, next to a lake. Over a period of about 5 months it gradually went from me being the only customer in there when I visited most days to becoming more and more busy. That was a year ago. I ate there most days as I had trained the chef to know just how to make my food to perfection After about a year the place was always busy and they were obviously doing well.
At that time I starting cooking for myself and stopped going there, however, I ride past there most days and for at least 2 or 3 days per week now they dont open.
They dont need the money and it will be full the next day when they open
A business for a Thai, I think, is something that is seen as a way to get money to enjoy life. I dont think they bother too much with the idea that if they dont open perhaps some customers might be disapointed if they drop by to find the place closed.
Perhaps they dont see things as a service but more a means to an end.

So if the sign says they close on Mondays, but sometimes they open, that's more of a pro than a con isn't it? Assuming they open just as they say they do the rest of the week.

Quite silly of you to go there on a Monday knowing they have this sign up clearly saying they close on Mondays..... and then complaining when you find them closed.

Pro: 90% of chicks arses look great when your walking behind them down the street.

Con: 65% of their faces are a let down.

Bangkok must be the arse capital of the world.

As the owner is a she ask her for her mobile number mate.

Then you can confidently schedule your meals and maybe get a bit of desert on the side!

I have noticed that the better Thai restaurants open when they feel fit and because when they do they have no problem with filling their tables.

    Typically Thai Chi!

    Oooooooopppppppsssss I made a funny!

A lot of businesses where I lived in thailand closed on a Monday rather than a Sunday, which made sense, especially for restaurants.

^^Good plan, I had a similar plan a couple of weeks ago and it nearly worked. The owner of the RC race track I go to asked me for my phone number which I thought was strange because he doesn't speak English.

Anyway his wife cooked me the best Pad Kee Maow Gai I've ever had so when my wife offered to cook it for me I said "I want it exactly the same as at the track. Here you can call Mick Jagger (we call him that because he looks like the Thai equivalent) and ask to speak to his wife and get the exact recipe."

Wiffy thought I was completely nuts but called anyway. Unfortunately Jaggers wife had gone to the market and never called back, but I'm off there tomorrow so will get her to write it down.
