Best SIM card for UK?

Okay, I have an old Nokia - nothing fancy, and I want a SIM card to use for the next month in Britain. I would obviously need a budget friendly pay as you go system and would prefer NOT to have to pay for incoming calls from Thailand.

Here in Clapham there is an o2 shop, there is an Orange shop and there are many more... What do the Brits of TD suggest?

Scampy, when over in the uk go to a Vodaphone shop pay £5.00 and be given a SIM card and get £5.00 worth of calls, after that just top up the card when it runs out.

Asda currently give best bang for buck - 47p SIM, 8p a min anytime and 4p for a text. Avoid Vodaphone PAYG - a complete rip off.

May be biased cos my lad is a Vodaphone exec - but - when I went to UK a few years ago he gave me a SIM card with credit on it that I could top up if I wanted to in the UK.
What I liked about it was that I went from UK to Thailand and on to Taiwan, and I could use it in both countries as well to burn off what I had left on it.
Got a FarEastTone one in Taiwan but couldn't use it back here in Thailand .

May be worth seeing which companies have international agreements before you get one .

You should pick up a topup card thing so you can top up at shops with the top up sign.

It was all new to me.

Everything was booked in advance, and it ain't no trust fund... Only spoled kids with wealthy parents have them, my emergency cash is inheritance cash which most of us acquire at some point in our lives and it's enough to buy a brand new Honda Jazz and have enough change for a big bottle of 100 Pipers.
