Ligerie, sales staff and sales staff in general.

Normally I can tolerate sales staff when being hounded by them in a general electrical store. I appreciate that they maybe on commission but the majority of the times I have walked out and bought elsewhere. Central Rama III is bad for this. On one occasion when purchasing a fridge, four members of staff literally ran towards me. The staff member that approached me first followed me around a stand 5 times which I did deliberately at walking pace to try a loose her tail; it didn’t work so I walked out as I felt intimidated I suppose. I know this is a minor gripe in comparison to other issues and I know things are done differently here, I also have nothing against the staff as they’re only trying to make a living on the pittance they’re being paid.

However, I draw the line to be followed and hounded when buying lingerie for the missus. The woman, a rough looking one at that was only 2 foot behind me and followed me everywhere I went, again this was in Central Rama III. Eventually, in an arrogant way I must confess, I told her to let me browse and should I need her help I will call her. (In Thai of course)

I ended up buying from Central World where I was free to browse around the lingerie section. Nice!

My gripe for the day, boredom over.
You bullied, you laughed, you lied, you lost!

    I tend to agree.

Perfume sales staff are the worst here. they will shout and run at you, and compete with each other for the sale.

Agree with all the above - the worst - or funniest - depending on your mood at the time, are the perfume sales staff in Japanese owned department stores, in Taiwan.
There is no conceivable way you could buy a surprise present for your lady there!

As you are looking around they descend on you and spray their sample scents in clouds around you - like being in a gas chamber !

You leave the place smelling like a pox-doctors waiting room and as soon as you get home and indoors your lady knows that you have either been to a "Barber Shop" or have a present for her !

I guess that makes it a clever sales strategy, as they know you have to buy something or face the music at home.....

Maybe, aherm, she was not sure if you were buying for yourself or someone else, and would be on hand to assist with fitting

Just stand in the aisle drop your trousers and try on for size. After seeing you in the nude she will hound you more or fuck off

It is their job and, no doubt, the manager has told them to assist all customers

much better than trying to find someone to help you and they have all vanished

Should have taken her up on her quest to help. Ask her to model a few items for you. Usually puts a damper on their enthusiasm.

What I want to know is, are companies like big c forced by Thai government to provide jobs for at least "X" amount of people at each of their stores?
That seems to me to be only only reason why big c would have so many kids standing around, on the payroll, doing fook all.

Power Buy at c entral stores must have the largest number of sales assistants any where.
I would like this opportunity to complain that I am often moved along from waiting outside the fitting rooms of lingerie shops.
I can't help it if my imagination goes wild when a customer walks out with 3 or 4 bras.

Get rid of the lingerie assistant by enquiring where the slightly used counter is.

Drives me mad, my pet Thai hate and usually just ignore the buggers. Funny thing is when you take back that electrical item you bought only last week which no longer works they all seem to be busy. My mrs says it's rude to express an interest in an item then just bugger off when they tell you the price. I often have said something if too expensive or looks poor quality and she's mortified saying it might upset the staff!
You would think they would learn most falang just want to be left alone and will ask for help when they need it, even then if you ask something they often either do not know or just lie. Best was when looking at two phones and asked the difference, well said the sales guy this one is 10.000 baht and that one is 13.000 baht.

Probably thought you were some sort of perv. What kind of man browses around the womens knicker section at the shops anyway? Do what every one else does, have a quick perv at the scantily clad maniquins on your way up the escalators then move on before your blush shows.

    Standard replies:

"that one is black, and that one is white"

"This one comes in a bigger box"

"This one is better" "Why?" "it is more expensive"

Play the 'shuffle' game. Wait until you've baited one (preferable one a bit dim looking), then move slowly to the left, one step at a time. The sales asst will follow suit, mirroring your movements. When perfect synchronizity has been achieved, feign to go to the left, drop your shoulder and quickly go to the right instead. Time it right and the sales asst will collapse in a heap. Works every time.
