Do you get those swarms of Mayflys down there. In Isaan they put a tarp under a florescent light and in the morning there are thousands of them dead on it. Yum, yum!Originally Posted by November Rain

It's riding the motorbike through them that does me. Dusk, can't put the visa down and the feckers seem to be searching for my eyes. Took me 2 hours to get one out the another night.Originally Posted by November Rain
Been threatening rain all day here in Pak Chong, not happened yet.
Yep, a delicacy.Originally Posted by Norton

You guys get a lot of rain. Probably why the scenery is so nice and the produce grows so well in Pak Chong.Originally Posted by somtamslap
Crunch, crunch for sure. Go well with a nice cold bottle of Leo though.Originally Posted by somtamslap
yes..
When you get those swarms of insects flying in ( termites?) my place is like a madhouse/slaughterhouse.
Geckos grabbing every one that lands on a wall and my bloody herd of cats/kittens climbing everywhere trying to catch the geckos!
Before the downpour and a nice serene stream.
This picture was taken 4 hours after the rain had stopped and about 30cm down on its highest level.
I almost lost SS Loy Toy as well!
God only knows what would of happened if the rain continued for another hour or 2.
Fortunately there was a council guy there and he suggested that we widen the river downstream and to fix the bottleneck.
Off to Town Hall tomorrow and to apply for this work to be done as it is council land and where the problem is..
Not sure what Mayflies look like. We get shitloads of flying ants, if that helps.Originally Posted by Norton
^ Bloody hell, LT. That's some downpour!
Yes NR and the problem is due to the council blocking off part of the river downstream and I would imagine that the council guy turned up because of this fact.Originally Posted by November Rain
But we had a hell of a lot of rain and 5 kms away on the beach my mate was sitting in sunshine all day.
We also get those flying ants as well and they normally come through the light fittings on some of the older houses.
We wake up in the morning and there are hundreds crawling around on the floor. Pain in the butt they are.

Don't seem to get 'em here in Phuket .
In Taiwan though my neighbour had a couple of those 'water apple' ? trees ( those pear-shaped red fruit that taste a bit like apple but are very watery) He never harvested them but swept them into a pile against my fence and they attracted every wasp in the town !
As you say - tread on even a dried up husk of one of the little f*ckers and you certainly knew about it !
I dumped a load of Jeyes Fluid over the fence the second year and had no problem from then on !!!
^What's Jeye's fluid?
Jeyes Fluid is an extremely strong disinfectant - smells like the creosote you paint fences with to preserve them - burns your skin with contact if you don't wash it off immediatly !!
I used it so that If I got any complaints I could say I had been treating my fence - sorry !
Damned right you are mate, we sat 3 guys on my porch when the electrical thunderstorm started, first there was a lightening strike on a electric mast just outside the estate and it caught fire, then about 30 seconds later lightning struck the mast right opposite my front door 10 yards from where we where sitting, we where showered in sparks and our ears was ringing from the thunderclap that accompanied the strike, my electrics needless to say went and then the rain flooded part of the estate with 40 cm of water running into 3 houses lying on the lowest part.
About 17.30 when we got the electrics back it turned out that 2 computers 1 television and 1 dvd player was fried at 4 different neighbours there might be more but that is what we heard about, now I'm without electric meter since they came and removed it and just taped the wires together.
The first electric mast to be hit just outside the estate.
These photos was taken after the rain and it was still burning so the firedepartment came and did their best to create traffic accidents
I will confess that when the strike hit just 10 yards in front of us we all jumped just a little in the chairs
^ Wow! Glad you are OK. Yep, before a storm, I used to run about the house unplugging everything, including the telephone and Inet connections.
^^ We lost an airconditioner unit when it was hit by lighthing as well.
thunder last night, but rain and little thunder now.
