    Killing animals for fun

An American woman has slaughtered an elephant with a bow and arrow... to win a bet.

The Texas-born hunter killed the elephant with a single shot

Teressa Groenewald-Hagerman was so proud, she posted pictures on the internet showing her beaming beside her kill in Zimbabwe.

The 39-year-old huntress said she crept into a herd of 37 elephants, knelt down, and shot the grand creature from just 12 yards.

It staggered 500 yards before it collapsed, then she left it to die overnight.

Ms Groenewald-Hagerman is the first woman known to have killed an elephant with a bow and arrow.

The Kansas-born woman slaughtered the animal to win a bet with a male friend who said she would be unable to pull the heavy bow required.

For eight months she worked out for four hours a day so she could pull a 450 PSE X Force bow.

The lethal weapon has a 'draw weight' of 90lb - more than twice the amount pulled by female olympic archers.

    Teressa Groenewald-Hagerman

On the hunting website Hunts of a Lifetime Ms Groenewald-Hagerman wrote: "A man by the name of Larry, who is a videographer for Orion Multi Media, bet me I couldn't shoot a buffalo or elephant with a bow.

"He indicated only one or two women had completed the buffalo with a bow and no woman had ever taken an elephant with a bow. Of course, I couldn't turn down the challenge."

The blonde has received praise from other hunters in online posts.

One blogger on texasbowhunter.com described her as: "Stunning looking, and a (sic) avid hunter.

"Her shot was made at 12 yards and the Bull traveled (sic) 500 yards before going down. 500 African Villagers were fed with the meat from the Bull. (sic)", Africanbowhunter said.

Another called BO-N-ARO wrote: "12 yards!!! I bet they had a great blood trail because of the low entry!! She had to have been shooting UP! That has to be one of the best examples of setting a goal and working hard to achieve it!"

The last person known to have killed an elephant with a bow was a man called Howard Hill, 60 years ago. It has rarely been attempted since.

Hunting elephants for sport is not illegal in some parts of Africa and many tour companies allow tourists to join organised hunting trips.

    sky news.

I think its probably easy to kill and elephant with a bow, or anything, right.

And people don't eat elephant meat so the meat is a waste.

    Obviously, a trophy killing.

    Elephant meat is eaten.
Actually, rich Americans have to pay tens of thousands of dollars to kill big game and this money goes to the up-keep of the game park.

Don't have a lot against hunters. I like venison, pheasant, turkey. But this is appalling.

In the US Ivory is illegal because you have to kill an elephant to get it. I wonder, they imprison child molesters for their activities abroad if she comes home with pictures of her kill on a computer or disk will they lock her up too?

Not the same sort of crime but it IS a crime none-the-less.

I thought some poachers of ivory drugged the elephants and sawed their tusks off. Not that that would be any better.

CRUEL TOURIST GETS SHOT FOR A BET
    07.05.09, 2:25pm
I just overheard a conversation where a bloke bet his mate to come and shoot this "woman" while she was in a group of friends minding her own business. If I were her I'd watch my back because a hell of alot of people will be thinking the same thing!
Why do people have to be such sick thugs?Because thats all she is and now thats all she will ever be.As for the people complimenting her on a job well done well you are just as bead as her. We should put you all in a group and start shooting!

    SICK SICK WOMAN
    07.05.09, 12:58pm
what is wrong with this 'thing' I just don't get it. I would gladly shoot her with a high powered bow, leave her overnight to die in pain then urinate over her. Too strong? or not strong enough? ok then, mutilate her first with a rusty knife, then **** on her, then shoot her with a bow and leave her overnight.

WHAT A MIND LESS THING TO DO! YOU EVIL COW!!
    07.05.09, 11:27am
I hope you get hit by a car, and suffer you bitch! May be one day, so one will do the same to you , you fat thick old yank!

No wonder you lot are hated around the world, evey where you lot go, you show off how thick and fat you are....you rubbish!

A PERFECT APPRENTICE FOR THE S**T OF HUMANITY

This woman is the s**t of humanity, I'd love to see her suffer the same way the poor elephant did.

    An eye for an eye.
Daily Express | World News :: The cruel tourist who shot dead an elephant for a bet

Therese Groaner-Hag appears to be attracting quite a fan club.

The best outcome I can think of for her meaningless existence is to be gored and trampled by a bull elephant.

So did not even have the guts to finish off her own butchery, which is what this is. Don't understand the mentality of people like her, almost as bad as killing a human for fun.

Did you read the op? says they fed 500 peeps the meat,

Hunting elephants for sport is not illegal in some parts of Africa and many tour companies allow tourists to join organised hunting trips.
So whats the big deal, it was legal and she paid and that money goes back to the game management of the country,

They cull elephants just like they cull Buffalo in Montana and at yellowstone NP, every game management in every country has to manage and cull every year, you are the same as a farmer, if he never sold a cow he would soon be covered in starving cows, if no deer were culled each year then every spring there would be hundreds or thousands of dead animals that had starved during winter.
so what is wrong with you who think that no animals should be killed while you go right on fucking and having kids to occupy more land and soon be living in the same 3 sq meters with a live bull elephant and a tiger and a civit cat.
And humans are supposed to be intelligent, sure the fuck are few and far between on here.

    Heres another super brained hombre.

Apart from not putting the elephant out of its misery, I don't know what the fuss is about.
Letting hunters hunt for a huge price actually helps game conservation.
The locals learn that keeping the animals around is more valuable to them than poaching them.

Have to be brave to creep into a herd of docile elephants.

Yes, that is all true enough, but the case becomes objectionable because some people clearly get off on spending thousands of dollars, travelling thousands of miles, to go shoot something happily minding its own business.

This women is clearly sad, inadequate and pathetic, as are her "fans". Living in Asia for a while has made me think differently about how humans treat animals, so I'm not particularly bothered about animals dying as such; it's more the thought processes behind the action that disturb me. I think a close relation of the elephant should go mano a mano with her - a fight I'd happily pay to watch.

Any animal shot with an arrow bleeds out, as did that elephant, not a bad way to go, not much pain and you get weak and go to sleep.
A big bore bullet does a terrific amount of damage as it hits with 3 or 4 tons of energy tears out a chunk of lung generally with a side shot, or you might get lucky and hit the heart, usually lungs and then what happens?
the animal bleeds out thru the hole in his lungs after 3 tons of energy smacked him and that hurts, but does not last long.
for that elephant to drop so quick she had to have hit a main artery and he was bleeding pretty good or he would have went a hell of a lot farther. so who ever wrote the article just don't know what he talking about when he says left him to die overnight, he was dead in a few minutes if he went down that quick, Jesus use some of your mentality here .
I will bet that the elephant that she shot was chosen by the game manager and she killed the one that they were going to cull anyway, I do know thats what happens in Montana when you pays your money to kill a buffalo, the game man goes out with you, points out the one that you are going to shoot and you shoot it, and that all she wrote for about $1000 or more.
same with Elk, they survey the area, and issue so many tags for certain size horns 2, 3, 4, or royals and sometimes cows, then you get a tag and go kill what ever you have a tag for hopefully..
That is game management, and the license and tag money goes back to game management.

If it's a good way to conserve and fund the game park, the animals in it and keep the locals from poaching, who gives a shit?
