Muggers Target Princess And Pals In Cambodia

Princess Eugenie and her friends were targeted by muggers in Cambodia, it has been reported.

Princess Eugenie is on a gap-year trip

A bandit grabbed a purse belonging to a friend of the younger daughter of the Duke of York during a night out in Phnom Penh, The Sun said.

Royal protection officers tackled the robber, only to be pelted with rocks by English Noodles, the paper added.

Princess Eugenie, her mother the Duchess of York and her sister Beatrice

Eugenie, 19, and her friends were then whisked away to safety by the police.

A Buckingham Palace source told the paper: "(Police) feared the incident was escalating out of control and took the decision to focus on the safety of their principal."

It is the first time in a decade that SO14 Special Branch officers have stopped a direct threat to a royal.

The princess - who is sixth in line to the throne - is on a gap-year trip which has already included visits to Thailand and South Africa.

There has been criticism of the cost of police protection for Eugenie during the trip, said to be in the region of 100,000.

Hardly a direct threat! and the royal bodyguards were thinking they were on holiday too?

as for the gap year thing, kids don't usually take their mother and bodyguards along

Can't see the problem here. This money would not of returned to pockets of ordinary British folk anyway.

The royal family brings in a lot more money to the UK than they take out, so I have no problem with them being protected at the expense of the tax payer.

Agreed, the taxpayer profits from the vast income from the Crown Estate, which owns great chunks of London, including Regent Street. Each monarch signs over these profits to the government in exchange for the much, much smaller Civil List. They also bring in millions, perhaps billions of pounds in tourism-related revenue that the monarchy helps to pull into the UK, they also pay tax like everyone else.

She attends Goldsmiths College in New Cross so a mugger in PP is just a training exercise for when she goes back

But, we could make a larger profit from them if they weren't protected and they bring in more tourists if they die in tragic circumstances.

You can get a lot more brands than in Thailand too.

I've even had Deuchars IPA there.

$1 happy hours for the local stuff (I personally drink Anchor now) is the go.
