    Racism

Read this on another forum. Must admit it is frustrating.

What the heck is going on with this racist culture? What we can and can’t say, how we say it and when is becoming increasingly frustrating. I don’t know about you, but I’m totally confused, and not only that, I feel terribly uncomfortable when talking to, or referring to a person of another origin.

Adjectives can be wonderful things. We use them to describe allsorts of objects that surrounds us in our daily lives. The use of adjectives makes one item stand out from another. “Whose is that car over there?” Which one? The man said. “The long red one”. I really don’t understand how one can be so offended with the use of colour. Yet it’s ok to refer to a person as white, for example: Which person are you talking about? Not the white one. Ha-ha, now I get it!

There are certain situations when the use of colour is acceptable; when ‘you’ personally have a friend of another origin who is not white! I have a friend who’s not white and I recall one day talking about two guys we saw that were jogging. I referred to the guy having a weird hairstyle, and my friend asked me to point the individual out that I was referring to as they both had weird styles. One had an afro that wasn’t white, the other multi-coloured Mohican. I did point the individual out and in this case I used the colour opposite to white. He wasn’t offended in the slightest. However, while out with my white friend, who also had a friend that wasn’t white but I didn’t know him, was very offended when I compared 2 girls’ asses. He asked which one I thought was sexy, and I pointed out the woman who wasn’t white but I used the colour opposite. Although he didn’t say anything, he did give me a nasty look for using a bad adjective.

Have times become so bad when you feel uncomfortable about using this adjective to describe fluffy cats, bin bags and everything else that uses this adjective?

Whom can we turn to for answers? Are we or the governments responsible for this segregation? It seems to me that instead of gelling people together from different origins, the governments are insistent on keeping us separated. There is of course the past to consider, but is this not a lesson we should have learned by now? Surely the way to bridge these differences is not to create a situation where we feel we’re treading on egg-shells all the time. I love my black car, my black LCD flat screen, I look great in black and most of all I love sweet black ass. What’s the problem?

Yes, it's a bugger. I was with me mucker from Cameroon today. I just made a casual observation that "that cloud over there is as black as fook", and immediately blushed.

That's because the goal posts keep moving.

First nigger was bad, call them negroes.
Then negroes were bad, call them blacks.
Then blacks were bad, call them Africans, or African Americans.
Now, I believe the correct term is black (been rehabilitated), or, African American.

I'll call them what ever they like as long as they stick to it.

Becuase it puts us too close to people who are happy to call a black person a "******" .

    Cue Blackgang and his ilk.

But how the fuck do you know where one is from. Are we supposed to ask the subject in person before we refer to their origin?

All you can do is be yourself and if people don't like the way you handle the cross cultural thing so be it.

I find that when I watch my P's and Q's around people of different skin pigmentation I normally but my foot in it.

Just call a spade a spade!

Oh fvck did I just type that?

I always referred to my fellow worker as a black man. Same for my best friend back in the states. Most people referred to them as african americans. But the black ladies that worked with us referred to most other blacks as "that fu--en nigger" or that "black as-sob". Seems that the black ladies in the states really talk bad about their own, but, don't you try it or you might get cut. I worked in Gainesville, Florida then. Mostly with black people. Over here I don't worry too much about it.

I worked with for and around Blacks, I was in school with Blacks, two of my best have been blacks, one when I had never seen a nigger before and he went to school with me and came to my house, which was across the street from the school and fucked off there til his mom, who was a welder in the shipyards, came by my house on her way home from work and he would go with on home.
And my other black friend is a merchant seaman and lives in Tacoma and we shipped together out of SIU Hall in Seattle, Last I heard of him he was mate on the tug Warrior for Foss out of Seattle.
It is confusing for you folks that are piss weak and afraid to say what you think, I personally got no use for a split tongued MOFO, so to keep it sorted you can call em niggers or negros and fuck the ones that don't like it.
They are the most racist bastards anyway, take a look at the Rev Jessy or the Rev Sharpton, so you will never be in the right so fuck em. do not worry about it..

I always considered 'coloured' as the nicest term until I was told that I should use 'black'.

In my little town race wasn't really an issue and still doesn't mean much to me; we were all English. Went to the same schools, had the same jobs and shagged the same chicks.

Same with me, when at home we had nothing but whites and some American Indians at times, we were close to a couple of reservations so we saw em but none lived in out little valley, then when I was about 7 I actually talked to the first Negro I has ever been around in Stockton Calif. where I went to 2nd grade.

Then I went back to my grandmas house and when about 12 I worked for my second cousin and her husband on a ranch about 70 miles from town and on this ranch there was an old black man that had been there for years I guess, and then a few years after the end of the war a Chinese cook went to work in one of the bars and he was a fine cook and did a great business and then after years he got his wife and son out of China and he took them and went somewhere else.
Other than that there has always been whites in my home town and no one ever even thinks or talks about color or race, cept we hardass square heads and polocks.

A few years ago, a black girl friend from LA came to London to visit

We were walking around my part of town (Southwark) and she exclaimed "Andy, you live in the ghetto!"

well, I do, and there are lots of Caribs, Africans and others, all black

OK their skin is not black, per se, but that is how I refer to them, in and out of their presence, it is acceptable

If someone were to object to my use of that adjective, I would be interested to hear why
    I have reported your post

You are closer to being correct than you might think...

Do you think racism is an 'all white' sport??

It's fine to live in an ivory tower and think that racism is a one way street, when in actuality WASP's make up the minority of races wandering around the planet and get accused of racism more that any other culture / race...

There was a time when calling a "Colored man" black wuld get you in a fight. Then "Sapde" became cool. Now "colored" will get you looked down upon and may even end in fisticuffs.

I have several black friends, Puerto Ricans, Cubans and American Slave descendants. Using the term black to single someone out or describe someone has never been an issue, has this changed? I didn't get the memo.

I got most of my racist slurs from playing cards with a slant-eye, a nigga, a white trash, and a wigwam welfare bum (funny, his name was Ray Kerry). I was the ho. Man, those boys sure taught me how to cuss and name call. Not like I use any of them words now, of course.

If it is a Negro I don't know then he is a Negro, if he is Asian then Asian , Caucasian then Caucasian, if I know he is from England then he is English and so on.

The term African American is to me racist, it is the American Negro's that don't want to fully accept that they are Americans and want to set themselves apart who want us to use this term, doing this they create a divide in the American people keeping the race issue alive and continuously playing the race card.

They demand to be a fully accepted integrated part of the American population but at the same time create distance, I am, to tell you the truth, tired of their whining black Negro asses, if they want to be American? fine with me then that's what they are, if they want to be African ? fine then f.ck of to Africa and be Nigerians, Algerians, Sudanese or whatever by all means, and then stop calling yourself Americans.

But most important! please please let us be free from the whining and the shoulder chips the size of Everest, after all it is not like they came in with the boat yesterday.

Point well made. Except, It is not all American Negros, just vociferous minority.
Problem with generalizations, we then have to add so many fuckin qualifications. Really gets hard, this describing things and people with any accuracy.

There are African-Americans, Polish-Americans, Irish-Americans, Italian-Americans, whole heaps of hyphenated Americans, though, I've never heard of an English-American.
