    Boarder jump from Kanchaburi

I live about 1 hour or so from this lovely town and I need to do boarder run for the first time in almost a year. I normally go by Jack Golf from Sukhumvit 20 something - Poi Pet but as I live outside Bangkok I have to spend the night before in a hotel and then sit through the 10 hour round trip .

I really don't want to do the Poi Pet mission and was wondering; if any visa vans ran from Kanchanburi to the boarder? Is there a boarder check point along that part of the boarder? If so is it usually open? Is it a big hassel? How much for a taxi from Kan-boarder? Any decent buses doing the trip? Anyone done this before? Have any boarder check points been closed due to the political unrest?

(Could we keep this in the pub for a while as I need some info ASAP

    MD:
No you cannot do a border run in Kan. You can cross the border at Three Pagodas pass but have to leave your pass[port at the border.

I know of a place in kan that takes people to Laos for visa service but that's not what you're looking for!...

seems the only option is to call JG and get picked up somewhere on the way...

    Not realy the only option.

Why not just get an evisa for Cambodia online and just make your own way to the border, saves any messing about at the border and also saves you a page in your passport and saves the JG fees.

To save you going to the 3 pagoda pass you can have a look at the pictures here (3 Pagodas Pass/Burma/Thailand).

EN: how does it save the page...don't they swap it for a normal visa? if that's correct I'm happy as I'm fast running out of pages even though I'm only out every three months...
Oh and EN: can I use the online visa at Ban Laem or only Poi Pet?

Just checked the e-visa site for Cambodia and it says Do Not apply online

Besides, the news on Cambodia e-Visa system infringement can also be found in Wikitravel under Cambodia Visa section.

Therefore, tourists to Cambodia are strongly recommended not to apply for e-Visa for the time being. As an alternative, on arrival visa can be easily obtained at price USD20.

You could go to Mae Sot, I think theres an overnight bus from BKK that gets there between 0600 and 0700. Last time I was there a bloke was waiting with me, got chatting and thats were he had come from. Burma visa's cheaper (500bt) and I think the bus went back within a couple of hours of getting ther unlike my 12 hour wait.

Only other one I can think of that I used ovber the west side was Ranong, another Burma one where you cross by boat to some shack to get your book stamped by a 16 year old with an AK.

Ah...Mae Sot was my original plan as I've never been there...
I'll drive so that's no worries...
is the visa just a small stamp or a whole page like Cambodia?
How about hotels as i might stay for a day or two...

Time to do some homework DD:
The site has been hacked and is in some legal dispute...
payments are not going through...people are being charged for other people's visas...

you have to be careful with your carte blanche...

We have found more data leak vulnerability in the current Cambodia e-Visa website (http://evisa.mfaic.gov.kh), including:
    1. Paypal has blocked Cambodia e-Visa and is no longer their payment gateway provider. This is a sign of excessive chargeback and account in dispute. They have subscribed to a Singapore based payment company now.
    2. On error page, the website returns other applicant’s email address in the online form.
    3. The system wrongly charge 5USD instead of 25USD. Apparently, the payment integration is in a mess now.
    4. The multi-lingual page on the system was not done properly.
We wish all visitors to this website to stop using current e-Visa (http://evisa.mfaic.gov.kh or http://www.mfaic.gov.kh).

I think you will find that there was a spoof evisa site set up in Malaysia at the end of last year that was taking the money.

There is nothing wrong what-so-ever with the Cambodian evisa system, and yes, it does save you a page in your passport.

Did the old Poi Pet run with JG. I went on a Tuesday and the only leaving time was 5am it was 3 hours there then 1 1/2 in a newish slot machine place with almost edible food then 3 and a half hours back. First visa run I have done in a year or perhaps more ... I had forgotten what a waste of two days they are.
