    No read it again.

I mean it's just hard to believe there the taxi driver did that just wanted to get 35 Baht more. It's weird that he got a steel hammer in his car.

I think you'll find that the steel hammer serves as both a tool and a weapon. He took milliseconds to find it, thus the need to use it as both is expected.

If a Thai guy can be killed for breaking a stutue of an elephant, they can certainly justify damaging a foreigner for refusing to pay a double taxi charge.

I too find it difficult to believe a taxi-driver pulled out an inflatable hammer and tried to attack Smeg.

It would have really hurt though

I've seen quite array of weapons in taxis GoW.

Usually a 500mm piece of wood by the drivers door.

Not that they ever have need to use it on me.

If my job was to pick up and drive strangers, often very drunk strangers, then I think I would probably have a weapon in my car too.....Perhaps an adult male grizzly-bear in the boot.

i think this would upset travellers with luggage. You would have to provide a roof rack or something for their suitcases.

Keep the bear on the roof rack.

All you would have to do is lower the passangers window if they were misbehaving and the bear could swat them about the head.

good idea. in addition this would allow the bear to get some fresh air and also eliminate the need for frequent cleaning of the boot due to bear's muck

My wife was almost hit by a taxi turning into Soi 11 off Sukhumwit at some speed. I yelled...no swearing, just something like "Oi! Watch it!" He stopped and got out, holding a meat cleaver. As he made no move toward me, I assumed he was just showing me his meat cleaver. As I didn't have one to show back (it was in my other jeans) I just glared at him and kept walking. He lost interest in me when another car trying to turn into Soi 11 honked at him. Last I saw he was showing that driver his meat cleaver.

That is my only negative other than catching a taxi driven by a guy so wasted he ran into two rubbish bins doing the uturn up Soi 5 back into Soi 7. I got out.

Generally find them pretty good except they often refuse to take you if the destination doesn't suit. I now just get in and tell them where I am going once the door is shut. If they try to refuse, I play dumb farang and they give up and take me there.

No problems in Samui either, other than the steep price...travelled a few times late at night there.
