Another classic from Taxexile on TV.

An American was complaining about the fact that the sun sets over the mountains and not out to sea at Hua Hin.

    Tax responded with this.....

"we all feel for you at this time in your life , it cant be easy for you , you have reached a crossroad in your development , you must either grow up and get on with your life , or remain forever a fussy westerner spoilt beyond belief.

perhaps you should go into therapy to help you resolve this terrible and obviously debilitating conflict in your life. you must be tearing your hair out with anxiety.

people here in hua hin are throwing themselves off hi rise balconies regularly as the terrible hardship of having to watch yet another traumatic eastern sunrise causes deep feelings of depression , insecurity and neglect . having to live with the painful deprivation of never having over the water sunsets is truly one of the biggest causes of stress , heart disease and inane postings on expat forums in western society today.

people starving in africa and people living amongst the bombs of baghdad have it easy compared with the daily torture that the unfortunates , the untouchables , and the forgotten long suffering martyrs of hua hin have to endure day after day."

I wish tax would sign up here

A classic from one of our members, Dr.BOb:
Heh, I give a fuck if you insult me you wrinkled old meths-drinker? Can't take what you give out can you, you piss-smelling white-trash dickhead. I've read way too much of your poisonous spew on here and it's time you had some of your idiotic vomit thrown back at you. Do you really think you can come out with the inbred garbage you constantly spout and nobody is going to call you the pig-ignorant lamebrain you so obviously are. Think again, boy.

I shouldn't really nominate myself but Phil's comments about Steven Prowler (a man later convicted of raping children as young as eight) made the flame spill from my keys:

    Phil's post :
I think even O.J would have to agree with that. It describes Steve down to a tee, and Steve knows that's how he is........... And yet....there is so much to like about Steve. I always admire his intelligence, his choice of words and expression and believe it or not I always enjoyed the challenge of meeting him for lunch and listening to his outpourings of grief. But Steve was never ever boring.

Like O.J said, Steve has only himself to blame for getting into this predicament but the Thai media dancing around with his head on a pole doesn't quite tell the whole story. But I'm not going to take sides here. I just worry that Steve doesn't have the mental strength to come through all this. At the end of the day - he's still a friend - albeit fairly distant.
    Phil's post "

mad_dog's reply: A habitual, predatory paedophile who grooms and then systematically abuses young boys and all the while cataloging the abuse and keeping locks of his victims pubic hair. Poor old Steve, how will he cope? What charming friends you STILL have.

They champion falsehood, support the butcher against the victim, the oppressor against the innocent child. May God mete them the punishment they deserve

I can only guess that many/most of the posters are British, and I am now reading a book by an American writer who lived in London for about 20 years. He states many things I find to be true in Thailand, about when he lived in London, it was during the 60s and 70s, maybe a little into the 80s. ( I don't find these things to be true about Thai people, but about the farangs here), as a general rule. I wanted to quote some of it, but as the book is more than 500 pages, I could not find the exact pages where I read good things to quote, and don't want to invest the time.

But I found it interesting because the author is very well-known, lived in Africa, in Singapore and several places, and had pretty much the same thing to say about British clubs in Singapore as his life in London, and even though the book is rather old, I find what he says to be true with many of the expats here.

I wonder if it is much more difficult for non-British people to make their way in Thailand, or just some certain cultures that are not British? Because I see a lot of sports and clubs and social events that are at the very least, very UK, here. I wonder if the culture of living in other countries, due to colonialism, made some people better able to handle living outside the UK, and made them better adaptable to making clubs or whatever, in other countries. You do see some other clubs here in Thailand, but not many, the only one I can think of would be something based around Alliance Francaise.

And I have seen an abundance of American bashing on some websites, that are about Thailand, and wonder if this is due to the fact that Americans never really colonized other places, and don't adapt as well to living as a farang? Where maybe it is second nature to some other western cultures? Since America is basically as big as all of Europe, why are there not American clubs here? Why is American football not a major sport, I would say there are many questions to indicate what I am saying here.

Its not a major sport because its difficult to understand and too long.
Also the wearing of helmets and body armour during any sport that does not involve the use of a motorised vehicle, is, in my opinion extremely gay.

Okay, thanks for your reply. I understand that some sports are more universal that others like soccer, or football, but other sports I think are not so widespread, like Cricket, I don't know if I spelled it right? Surely baseball is as popular as that sport? I think. And Rugby, I think that is close to American football, and is it really played by more people in the world than American football, or basketball, or some other sport. I think you don't find any uniquely American sports spread to different areas of the world because Americans didn't have any colonies to spread it to.

So, if Americans can't gather around a sport, what do they have? If anyone knows of some American clubs in Thailand, I would love to hear about them. I think the mostly classless society, and the lack of colonies, has made these clubs not exist in most cases.

And I have seen many comments on threads like this, that say certain people don't want to move to the P.I. because there are too many Americans there.

I have never had a thought about how many Aussies, Brits, Germans, Dutch, French live where I do and would never give that a thought in making my decisions about where to live or spend a large amount of time.

^^I'd guess basketball is played in more countries than rugby. The NBA pays higher salaries.

^There're 82 players from 38 countries playing in the NBA. Aussie Luc Longley has 3 championship rings playing for the Chicago Bulls. 228 countries and protectorates (for lack of a better word) listing basketball federations, even the Solomon Islands has Solomon Islands Amateur Basketball Federation (Member of FIBA since 1987). The UK has 4 listings. Plus it's an Olympic sport. We finshed in 2004.

I don't think you can class a popularity of a sport by the number of foreign players playing in a domestic league.

Basketball is played all over to a small scale, but rugby is more popular in those countries which participate.

Is that not a domestic competition, or is it another American 'World Series'?

Yes it's domestic. :P But the USA took the bronze in 2004 Olympics. It shows that talanted athletes outside the US are choosing to compete in the sport.

    Oh wait
    Toronto Raptors are Canadian.

which is a much more impressive achievement than diverting an american sports thread into a flame post thread.
