CANBERRA, Australia - Australia's capital is plagued by too many kangaroos, and the best solution is to shoot them, an official said Tuesday. Horrified conservationists vowed to demonstrate if authorities followed through.

The best solution is not to shoot them- it is to eat them.

I'm with you sabang. Never kill something unless you are going to eat it.

    True.

This isn't news, anyway. They've been treating Kangaroos like the vermin they are for years.

    Just managing the population is all. Wish we could figure out a way to manage and dispose of our kind - kinda thinning out the herd {sort of speak}

But that's the national pastime in the US, so I thought you'd be all for it?

If it's successfull they could extend the policy to the populace. They're vermin as well.

This has been going on for ever, as has the discussion.
It dies down from time to time (the discussion) then some animal rights group brings it up again and away we go again.
Part of the reason they're a menace is because their populations are unnaturally high due to their access to water provided by the pasturalists by way of bores and irrigation.
There are many (breeds?) of kangaroo and some are rarer than others. Shooters need to be educated to tell the difference between breeds and only allowed to cull the more common nuisance breeds (eastern grey for example)

    Good point!

The big red is an amazing creature and for years up country it was quite rare to see one. Not sure about their numbers at the moment.

Jesus H. Christ and bugger me on a dead man's crotch. Old snaf is starting to sound like a proponent for Jap whaling with his nose out of joint.

As for the "jingjoes" we cull no less than a million of the suckers a year. Great eating. Should be doing the same with the f'n dolphins that keep knocking off the fish I try to catch.

I heard that Aussies capture the kangaroos in nets, dress them up as back packers, release them and then hunt them down with guns from the back of a ute during the low season

How fashionable. If you're such a vegan, why is it you promote the milk side of yourself?

Aren't drop bears a form of carniverous kangaroo?
Shouldn't it be permissible for vegheads to eat carnivores, as revenge?

How much methane do roos expel when they fart?

Methane emissions from farm animals account for about 15% of Australia's greenhouse gas production.

Yet kangaroos, feeding on the same sorts of grass, produce no methane at all.
