    Pedestrian crossings

G/day ,, How many of you when driving in Thailand stop at zebra crossings or pedestrian crossing to allow pedestrians to cross over to the other side of the road ? Where i come from it is compulsory by law to stop when a pedestrian steps foot onto the crossing unless it is not safe to do so and may cause a accident .. It seems in Thailand this rule does not apply ,, Yesterday i saw an elderly lady get knocked over when she was 1/3rd the way acoss the road on the crossing ,, this got me wondering ,, you never ever see trafic give way to pedestrians ,, cross at your own peril

I always stop if someone is trying to cross in a zebra crossing.

    It's the law.

I usually look in my rear-view mirror first.

I stop as well, but then the Buffs don't want to cross.
I ask my 'ol Lady, why don't they cross ? her reply is "they think when they get on the road you will run them over"

Too dangerous to stop, you will get rear-ended, same for traffic lights, the countdown makes the Thais drive faster

To dangerous for the pedestrians if you stop, the cars behind just go round you and may not see the crossing pedestrian that was hidden by your car.

I slow down and wave them across before flooring the accelerator and running the fuckers over.

When in Rome and all that...

After we got back from a holiday in England Mrs bb talked for a week with all her friends about how English drivers actually stop to let people across the road. She calls it Amazing England.

    Sweet.

PS Here in Thailand, I always stop. It's in my nature.
The sleep of reason brings forth monsters.

There are no laws dealing with zebra crossings as such. The closest one refers to tang karm, which translates as “pedestrian crossing”. The Land Traffic Act of 1979 states that drivers must be cautious when approaching a pedestrian crossing, making sure not to hit pedestrians, regardless of which direction the drivers are coming from. Drivers must be extra careful if the pedestrian is a child, an elderly person, or a handicapped person. The penalty for violating the law is a fine ranging from 200 baht to 500 baht.
