Are you stoned again because your posts are incoherrent.

Do explain why I'm vindictive? [wanting to hurt somebody without good reason]

Nice of you to ask of my calendar but why?
Are you waving your 'days off' under my nose to irritate me?
Well too late, half a dozen others have done that already.

And what the fuk is my old nik got to do with anything.

Was 'Poolcleaner' still is 'Poolcleaner' on TD and ajarn.

I don't constantly ram my salary details down newbies throats on 20dayajarn trying to build up some Thaiophilia in them and make myself feel proud and more secure in the process

Just wanted to let it be known that you are the one with the TEFL certificate teaching in BKK. I dont have a TEFL and have taught at the university level in two uni's one private and the other government for 15+ years.

If you have a TEFL certificate, and teach in that field why do you hate your fellow TEFLers so much?

Since this was in the OP I think that AO and Klong are well justified discussing salaries.

edit: plus I for one am shamelessly curious since it is all hard info for thinking on. If no one quotes numbers it is tough to get a feel for the marketplace. I routinely discuss salaries with my colleagues as a way to share info so we can work better deals with the company.

So just to refresh me, you have what teaching qualifications?

I assume you have something better than a TEFL so what do you care what anyone thinks about TEFLers?

Now, hate is a strong word. Shouldn't be used unless you'd actually wish bodily harm on another.
So IMV, to say I hate TEFLers is completely false.
That the reaction to some simple, honest questions posed by Smeg has generated such retaliation and hostility for nigh on 4 years is amazing.
I've seen the master wind up artist at work and I've been impressed.
How could I not join in?

This is an open forum Poolcleaner. Post as you wish. I have only been exposed to smeg here on TD. Some of his threads are excellent. But when he starts putting down the lifestyle in Thailand I will speak up.

Yes I believe that is a much better strategy...cause there are many unis which specialise in engineeering and always need qualified teachers

outside of english as a subject, unis generally require min of Masters Level

Interesting this never even crossed my mind before...I could possibly do the masters as an extension/distance program but I would never be able to do a BEd that way. I knew this thread would finally offer up a gem of knowledge.

Late reply to an OP, but:-

Yep. Agree 100%. You don't "not get" anything...

Anyone working here as a TEFLer for other than these three reasons is going to encounter financial difficulties at some stage of their life unless they intend retiring in this country, in which 40,000 pm can be enough to accumulate sufficient assets over a period of time if you happy retiring out of Bangkok but away from the tourist areas.

    Not necessarily.

A Masters will enable you to teach other subjects at a Thai uni but for the most part the salary tops out around 100,000 and jobs aren't necessarily that easy to come by.

International school teacher salaries here top out at about 250,000 but these jobs are very hard to come by and usually require a couple of years teaching in western system post receipt of BEd. They also tend to recruit offshore via job fairs. Having said that, at second tier internationals, jobs around 80,000 are fairly readily available with BEd and limited teaching experience and can be picked up in-country.
