    Ever had a Nickname?

As an expat, I notice that many people have nicknames. The nickname is usually about where they are from: nation, or city. Or about a character trait (personality) or a physical trait.

Irish Jim, Arsenal Dave, Angry Chris, Nice Guy Bill, etc.

    So.....

Did you have a nickaname in the past? In school, for example.

    Who gave it to you?

    Why? What did it represent?

    What was the nickname?

Do you have a nickname now?

    Over to you............
    ............

When I was younger, most of my friends used to call me by my surname, but now it's just Jase. My sister calls me 'J'.

Some of you lot call me Marmite, which is a bit odd in real life.

Though it doesn't much apply anymore in my more elder years, for years everyone refered to me as 'Popcorn'. Don't know how it came about - presumeably from my once grain based diet.

I was actually "Igor", cruelly dubbed by the 'big boys' because of a congenital deformity (honest). For some unknown reason it's stuck into my 50s.

I had/have the same nickname for 3 different reasons. At school I was called snowy because I had really bad dandruff. When i was 18, my hair changed colour from black to white, and so i was called snowy again. In my 40's i developed the trick of making white powder dissapear up my snotter - snowy again.

    1. One in my youth "The Fox" because I apparently had a knack of pulling good looking woman.
    2. Pom Suwai (Hairdosan, Hairdo) and in the bars of Bangkok.
    3. After my marriage "Loy Toy" and that is the nic I use when I go into the bars here. In fact have been out with a few Teak Door friends here and they are quite amused when we would into a bar and the girls announce "Sawadi Ka Khun Loy Toy"!

My nick was Jungle coz I had so much hair. Like wild ringlets. Given by my band leader. Stuck till I cut most of it off. In the fam I have always been the Little One or Punkin (Pumpkin), because I am the youngest of my generation in the clan.

I love ladies with a lot of hair especially growing wild and with ringlets!

In fact I find it quite erotic running my fingers through it.

In school of course I was seeing a girl called Rik and had inscribed on my satchel
    "Rik loves Prick".

Even the teachers called me ^, must have been before it was rude.

Yeah, some niknames are derived from our usernames on the forum.

I like it. But it is a bit, odd. Hard for me to explain why, but I feel this way.

    Good point, DrAndy.

    And I do agree.

Those are physical descriptions for clarification when people are not around and they need to be described. When, for example, there are 5 people we know or are acquainted with named, "Dave."

I suppose a nickname is a nickname you when when a person is not around, but more importantly, how you address a person whe you see them and converse with them.

Loy Toy, and you have to use certain tones when saying it in Thai means broken, useless, doesn't work and a waste of time basically.

I originally used this term and as a distraction and when bar girls approached me with the "What is your name........where you come from" jingle.

After a while it stuck and I can be walking down the streets of Pattaya and all of a sudden "Khun Loy Toy" will be heard along the soi and as my greeting.

I was once introduced to a guy who everyone called TC. I knew his real name was Nigel Smith or something, and it took me ages to get around to asking what TC meant. Turned out it was short for talks crap.

I knew I shouldn't have thrown it out! Chopped it off when I was in art school. Kinda the Coco Chanel thing to do. Lost about ten pounds.

My rugby friends in the UK call me Bobcock, the wife is Mrs bobcock and the olderst boy is called Bobcock Junior. The youngest is called the Marmoset.

I was called welshman for years after i moved to London, which I actually never liked, especially when I went to wales with those people. Being called Welshman in Wales is not good.

In school for a while I was called Prof Plum, cos I was clever I guess.
