The way the American economy is going a lot of those shit jobs currently done by poor Mexicans seeking a better life for themselves and their families, will be sought by fat arsed stockbrokers and financial wizards with the bum out of their pants. Expect a strong racist backlash from the white landlords when they realise that this previously cheap and convenient labour force is now surplus to requirements.
But Johnny, most of the places they live are owned by Mexican or slum lords that prey on these people.
One such named Tony, in Pittsburg Ca. owns almost a block of cribs that were 3 room shacks and there was 2 homes on the block that he did not own and covered more ground than 6 shantys he would build on the lots and one was owned by my Xwife and her husband, he had bought it 20 years prior, but did end up selling it to Tony because he had to get out of the polluted city air because of Lung problems and Tony remodeled and rented it to 3 mexican familys.
and the concret box apts care not who they rent to as it is paid by state most times anyway.

I believe we should offer all the illegals a renewable work permit to stay in the country. They pay taxes and visa fees and the govt can pass some sort of law that reduces minimum wage a bit just for these temporary workers. Businesses caught with unregistered illegals would be fined heavily. You can call it amnesty but I just call it practical.

And yes, you do have to pay a state income tax as well as a sales tax, and yes rent is quite high but living conditions are better than a lot of states, but you do have to put up with greasy illegals and when they move into a neighborhood the property values fall fast too so the slum lords need only pay good money for a 3 bedroom with garage and move in 5 family's and the rest are at a give away price.
Away from the city's is a good place to live but the city's are an easy place to find a job if you need one, and I have never failed to score a good job at good wages there , but I have always belonged to a union too.
