    Good luck SEA Traveler.

Remember this about Thailand -- low expectations yield little disappointment.

After a few years, the screwballs and jacked up things don't even phase you anymore.

thanks Khun Tex. I'll be staying below the radar and behind the barrier a fair amount of the time but not too concerned about venturing out as I have good cover. Low expectations? How about none? I just want a little time to wind down and take up a slower paced life for a change. I didn't say a life that has stopped because that wouldn't work either. I anticipate remaining active and engaged but at my pace and below the radar.

I Understand your comment here Khun blackgang however, my thoughs on this are "that it is less touristy using the term Khun than failure to show respect and courtesy" to those deserving..... or in some cases those of the human race. Now, in the same respect, if a person has done something or created a situation where they are no longer deserving of that respect and courtesy, then I have no problem in not using.

OK, carry on Khun blackgang... Ciao!

Have to agree with Blackgang, the Khun shit is very annoying.

OK, got it. For those that express annoyance with use of the formal/honorific and respectful use of the word "Khun" when I address them (especially since I have yet to meet them), I will discontinue it's use when addressing them specifically. Otherwise, I will hold course. Thanks lom.

Why should you be worried about showing respect when the natives here in this country do not know the meanings of the word..

Personally, I have not been shown any disrespect by any of the locals. I agree that it should be a two way street; tit for tat; and treat others as you would like to be treated.... so, until an individual has not offered a common coutesy or respect for me as custom or general protocal calls for, I will continue to to offer the traditional form of addressing an individual.

Got you covered "M the Dog". I'll honor your request also not to have the "Khun" honorific used when addressing you.

    Ciao!

In early April I'll be headed to Poland and Romania for about 3 weeks worth of work and will have a few days layover for R&R in Amsterdam. Wife has never been to Europe so will be taking he along.

Prior to this European work trip, my household goods are to be loaded up and placed in a 20 foot container. Estimated arrival in Thailand is 18 May. That's perfect because I'll be back in Thailand, taking up residency at the end of April, just after the European work trip. I'll be getting to celebrate my Bday in Thailand here in early May.

Anyway, the 3 months of extra work after retirement has put enough jingle in my pocket to pay for the daughters October wedding, pay for the shipment of the household good to Thailand, pay for the wife's plane ticket to Europe, and pay for both the wife and my air tickets to Thailand as well as to pay the increased income taxes on that income. all in all, not a bad deal. True semi-retirement here I come as I will remain on-call to continue making overseas equipment deliveries when the need arises. Hooooa! "Good Times Charlie"!!!!!
Sounds like a whirlwind. Congrats on your retirement. This is the time for you. Relax, sit back, and have a few beers. You worked hard, now reap the benefits. Cheers!

No for at least 2 reasons: 1) color is the spice of life and no reason to be so bland; 2) could never identify with such an unlikely candidate as a role model or one to follow.

    otherwise, thanks for the comment.

ok, just for you blackgang.... "white font"... but none of this small hard to read font stuff.... heck blackgang, I thought you might possible enjoy color as your nick includes color in the name. might there be another color other than white that you can live with? you know blackgang, I'm willing to meet people half way... you explained that the "orange" font was hard to read. I don't much care for the drap small non bold white font. common on, be reasonable and lighten up a little. I though someone like yourself who has been around the block a few times and was resident in Thai would have mellowed out a little by now. Ciao my friend.

    26 Mar 2009,

Packing and moving day: Purchased a king size mattress and box spring 2 days ago and it was delivered today as planned at 0830. Factory sealed and wrapped in heavy duty plastic a second time for protection.

The movers arrived right on time about 1 hour later with a 20' container. I inspected the container and there were no holes and the door seals were acceptable.

I contracted for a door to door move but since this move is on my nickel, I collected about 20 paper cartons from the office, acquired larger cardboard boxes from the local WalMart, grocery stores and furniture stores. I did purchase a few packs of professional cushioning paper and 15 roles of wrapping tape from the local U-Haul.

Since there was a fair amount of furniture and other items that would remain in the house here in the states, Mrs Sea Traveler and I moved a few of the items outside in the back to the ground level patio. That was easy as there are some sliding glass door that provided plenty of room. Here are a few pictures of those items outside and the items from inside that were not in the way. There may be some redundancy in the item locations but you'll be able to get the general picture.

One other added comment to this packing is that about 1/2 way through the container stuffing process, I asked the moving forman if he thought there was capacity for a boxed unused lawn mower. He indicated that there would be. So while the Mrs supervised the load, I took 1/2 hour to run over to the Local Lowes and purchased a boxed up lawn mower, no oil or gas ever in the crank case or fuel tank. Got back to the house and they promptly added it to the inventory and loaded it.

Oh yea, another note. You may have noticed the box of Corona... well it was just that,,,, a box. No alchole on this shipment. There were however some non-alcholic coctail mixes included.

The packing went well and we will be on the other end waiting for the delivery sometime in early to mid May. Hooooa!

Just returned back to the US from 3 weeks in Europe doing my cunsultant support stuff. Washing the cloths, packing of the suitcases, and making final arrangements such as banking, mail forwarding, and obligational things prior to and for the transitional retirement move to LOS. Wheels up last day of April. Ciao!!!

    to sleep on.....

us old timers are better off with well maid mattresses with the correct type of support. current mattress being used in Thai is best we could find at the time and does/did not provide what I need for a good nights rest.
