Anyone know if they are still flying into Utapao? Bangkok Airways apparently have flights from Phuket to there which would be a viable option for me if available.

Those of you trying to get into Thailand from KL.
Here are some options for you:
Fly Air Asia from KL to any of the following cities:
Phuket
Penang
Ipoh
Alor Setar
From the Malay cities, catch a bus or Mini Van to Hat Yai, transfer to a bus to wherever you're going.
It's what I'm doing...KL to Alor Star, which is an hour from Hat Yai and then bus home. I live in the Hat.
Or train from Penang/HatYai? I'd even hitchhike but not through the south.
^^ When are you flying Mr Stretch?
Missus had her flights changed to the 13th - not convinced that is going to happen either.
Thanks mate, but I'm really starting to fear the worst now. I was hoping that this would all be over in a few days, doesn't look like that now.
I'll be totally gutted if we can't make it. The whole point of going was so everyone can meet the latest additions to the family, plus my grandmother's not getting any younger and much as I hate to admit it this was probably going to be a goodbye trip too. :(
There are.Quote:

Nope, can't get to a booking. Wonder what chaos their flights to Thailand are like?
Some flights are going from Utapao as per original shedule as my friends are going back to London from there tomorrow on Eva Air (I suppose it depends if your airline has set up base there which I assume is the case with Eva).
As of today they are doing the check in process at BITEC then providing buses down to the airport (as per Eva Air website). Hope this is of help to anyone who may have a flight out upcoming with Eva.
I'm sitting in the EVA lounge in Taipei just now waiting for a 5 PM flight to Utapao. Looks like about half a dozen of us waiting for the same flight. I think this one goes on to Dubai and maybe some place in Europe.
You can check the following URL and look for news on EVA's constantly evolving schedule of flights through Utapao.
www . evaair . com/html/b2c/english/eva/News/2008/
You'll have to do the URL yourself. I don't have enough posts....
Squirrel, I was supposed to fly out on the 2nd, but decided to change to KL, catch an Air Asia to Alor Star and then bus it over to the Hat.Quote:

Bung, from KL, try Penang or Alor Star on Air Asia. Malaysian Air might be a possiblity, too as they are in a fare war right now. From Penang you can get a train to BKK, from Alor Star you can get a bus to Hat Yai and catch a train or an express bus.Quote:

Eva Air are scheduled to be flying me from Utapao on the 5th, so only a slight extra inconvenience if it all goes smoothly.
its a long walk so cross that off your list
All "Swiss Intl Air Lines" flights ZHR-SIN due to stopover in BKK are now operated via Chiang Mai.
Breaking news
Got a very comfy 35 seat coach up from Sing 7pm tonight. Picked up the flu so I'll load up on whatever I can get and should sleep most of it.Quote:

Yeah, but you need to get yourself from the travel agency to the bus terminal, more than likely.
Whichever agency you stop at should be able to help you with both getting a ticket and to the terminal.
RC: Bangkok Air is running special flights out of Hua Hin Airport to Samui and from Samui to Singapore so presumably they are running in reverse as well...it's only a short drive from HH to Bkk...certainly beats the round-a-bout routes being discussed here...Quote:
