I apologize, I didn't mean to stir up a hornet's nest. Seems as we have touched a nerve. Americans, for sure, are the most sentisive to critique. Coming out of the wood work - defenders, apologists, blind faithers, etc. For the record, I was born to American parents. I carry an American passport. I was not born nor raised in the beloved land, therefore never indoctrined....but I have the capabilities to see the American civilization and character for what it really is and represents, without bias nor discrimination.

The (UA) flight was selling Jack Daniels for something like 12 Dollars a Litre, I bought 3 botltles, drank one on the flight, they scanned me at SF and found the 2 extra bottles, I expected they would confiscate them, but the guy doing the search asked me "Wheres's the party man...can I come too!" I know many American that work for companies that do extraordinary jobs and do not fear getting fired. Are you saying that in countries like England, employees do not worry about getting fired? Or is there some socialist protection plan set up there same as their failed socialist health care?

I neve4r worried about being "sacked" when I was an employee. I was appreciative of the company that paid me and paid me a healthy wage as well. I was their top performer, never lazy and nver a headache. As a matter of fact, the CEO of the company is forming a sister compnay and just tonight on Skype, he threw a sweet offer at me to go run the region for him.

As for when I owned my own company? No one that worked for me feared being "sacked". I was a fair employer and went out of may to give my men the feeling that they were their own boss. I paid above the going rate, had weekly breakfast meetings to help them with any problems they were facing, made sure they made time for their families and was had an open door policy in my office.

Sold the buiness to a huge corporation and here I am.

Was I alazy American? Never.

Was I or am Iarrogant? I got the job done, knew I could and excelled at tasks. It is called self confidence.

Did I ever fear getting "sacked"? Not for a minute at any job I ever worked. I don't need a union, or an arbitrator to sort things oout for me. I was worth a days wage and more and always got more. I did not need a contract, nor did I ever have to file a grievance. Nor did I ever spend time in the unemployment line or recieve public assistance.

In Septic talk " I got 'er done!" and people were happy with the results.

The average American that I met when I visited/holidayed/worked there was pleasant, polite, kind and generous - apart from anyone who worked for the INS and a real twat of a cabbie I had the misfortune to hire in Charleston. Mind you that was some time ago - have they changed all that much?

And in America, it appears almost "subnormal" to "walk", I walked from a hotel in NC to the nearest town, maybe 3 miles, to find a bank..to change some pounds to the greenback..I was trailled by cops (three times), hooted at by fat bastards in SUV's, and when I finally got to the bank, they didn't know what an English Pound was, (the bank even has a drive in window, where the fat fucks could pull up and do their transactions without even having to get their fat fucking asses out of the car!)and tried converting it based on Canadian Dollars...they would only change 100 Pounds, I initially had to borrow a dollar from the hotel to get a coke...if you can call it an Hotel, some shit hole near Smithfield NC, fuck, I'd pay a thousand to never go back..you can however look up on their local map, via google, where there SEX OFFENDERS LIVE!
You can go into Walmart and by a fucing 12 bore shotgun..if you have the right ID..imagine Tesco' selling Colt .45's, the country is a fucked up place, if you were brave enough to cross the interstate, there was a go go bar where "apparently" you could pick up a "Crack Whore" for the night for 20 Dollars...Raleigh International airport had a better approach, you could rent "Once You've had black...you'll never turn back" for 150 an hour...and that was at the Holiday Inn!
Then, turn around, head back to the hotel, followed by cops and 300Kg beasts honking their horns..fuck that for a game of cards!

You'd be surprised - that doesn't really apply to me anymore. For the last 2 1/2mths I've been doing 50hrs+ per week; going to get worse before it gets better too as I have to file patent applications before I head off for holidays in Dec. Enjoyable though. Oh, and I focking hate the Blackberry with a passion.

You're being specious. You've misinterpreted what I said, deliberately or not the effect's the same; you've not answered the question - no American ever seems able to for some strange reason. Plenty have told me that I'm jealous and envious of the US, not a single one has told me why.
