^ Not bad. Last time I bought a phone in Thailand I had huuuuge problems as the warranty was for Thailand only and I live in Australia.
Had to send it back to Thailand ( bloody gamble that was) and eventually got it back after about 5 months and thousands of phone calls and emails later.
Whilst they may be cheaper to buy in Thailand I won't do it again unless I have a full international w3arranty.

Like the Google guys themselves, T-Mobile's G1 is a little late to arrive (Apple's iPhone 3G has already been on the market for two months), but it's still pretty cool. A tad heavier and narrower than the iPhone, the G1 features a petite keyboard, a handy trackball, and a higher-resolution, three-megapixel camera (versus the two-megapixel camera on the iPhone). Along with its Google-designed browser, the G1 features a more powerful version of Google Maps with a built-in compass and 360-degree photos. And Gmail users get instantly notified when new messages arrive in their inbox, instead of having to check manually. The G1 goes on sale October 22 for $179 ($20 less than the iPhone) and will be available in white, brown or black.
It may be more of a bargain, but the G1 is far from perfect. The keys on its keyboard are almost comically tiny. The touch-sensitive onscreen zoom feature isn't as intuitive as the iPhone's. And the rumored cut-and-paste functionality in e-mail is a bit dopey: It doesn't let you rearrange individual words or phrases; instead, you can only cut and paste the entire message. And while the built-in camera is a full megapixel higher than the iPhone's, you still can't record video. One big drawback for music lovers may be the lack of iTunes for the G1; without it, you can't play copy-protected songs purchased from Apple's music store unless you convert them to MP3s first. There is an unbranded music player built by Google, however, and Amazon is the default music merchant.
The G1 is certainly slicker than photos leaked on the Internet suggested earlier this month. But we won't know how well it performs until buyers can actually use it in the real world. Among the key questions: How good will the add-on applications currently being developed for the G1 be? How fast will T-Mobile's 3G network work in cities like Memphis and Miami? And how well will Google's browser-based applications, including Google Docs, work on the G1? We'll let you know what we think as soon as we road test the G1 next month.

the google gadget also sounds interesting,
the SAMSUNG has a walking GPS included, kinda nice
I have had an iPhone for ages - no problems with it at all (apart from the camera) - I am a geek with 9 PCs and also 24 inch iMac - I sync to my pc laptop and my iMac - have a mac wireless network running at home and a windows network running in the office and it connects seemlessly to each for wifi for email and Internet, I also use GPRS when WiFi is not available (I only have an AIS One-TO-Call account) Of course it also Syncs all my iTunes for music and podcasts and all of my calendars.
I did have some problems connecting to my email server from Singapore but in KL it was fine.
At the time I bought mine no other phone could touch it, today however, Samsung, HTC and Nokia all produce great phones digital media enabled phones.
I paid around 21K for mine but the new version costs a lot more.
This guy is meant to be an iPhone Guru here in BKK but is sold out!

There are many guys in MBK that will unlock the phone, take care if you connect to iTunes after a software update as you could get locked out again -
Samsung Omnia i900. The 8GB black version is 24,000THB in my local mall.
No worries about software and it is better spec than the iPhone.
It comes in three colours; white, black and silver, and two configurations; 8GB and 16GB.
It's a no brainer.
Forgot to add; if you don't need the wireless internet access then go for the Samsung Tocco, it has a similar touch screen display but less features than the Omnia.
It has internet access via a 3G network using HDSPA, but that will be useless in Thailand as there is no 3G.

Just showed the google phone on CNN...looked pretty good, if you're gay or French.
iPhone is $200 USD in America. Might pick one up when I go back in December. But the pricetag comes with a 2-year contract with AT&T. Wonder how I can get one without the bloody contract.....

some good features like 'etiquette function' which simply allows you to turn the

Biggest advantage over iPhone is the camera...iPhone doesn't have a flash!...this camera takes great pics and huge files if you leave it on the default setting...has excellent vid player but still not good enough to make Four & Mod look sexy in the raw...
Word of caution...you'll need to get a new sim card - free - because the old ones are not compatible meaning that many of the phones functions don't work on the old card...
took mine back for a lesson today from the shop and they told me to change the sim card...walked 20m to AIS where they changed it for free in 5 mins...now everything;s working as it should do...
Oh..BF: it doesn't have the 'strech screen with your fingers' that the iPhone has...
