Tattoos: A new fashion trend or not?

Could not happen to notice that many here on TD have tattoos. Also the majority of women I meet now, being either farang or Asian have some type of Tattoo.

IMO opinion I would never have one and don't really like them on women. My father always warned me if I ever got a tattoo or an ear ring he would disown me.

Was in the Black Pearl the other night and saw a very young, very pretty girl with one on her forearm and her whole right leg covered in one. What a shame for her as she really looked bizarre and it would be very costly and difficult to remove and if she ever decided to do so.

Finally what is the reason one gets a tattoo and what statement does it make by getting one?

I really do not know why you would get them.
I did because most seamen had Tatts when I was young, my oldest tat is over 60 and the newest is 20 so they just seem natural to me.
But I do not care for them to much on women, but I see here in Thailand that some women have a dick and I do not care for that either.

When I first come here there were very few girls with tattoos but now it seems that nearly everyone has em.
Even the elder birds get them to cover their stretch marks now.

Again I find them highly unappealing especially on a woman.

I really don't know how I would feel if my daughter come home with one.

I probably would try and talk her out of getting one but at the end it is a personal choice.

Dont really understand how someone would choose to get one in the first place.

Yes in some instances getting a tattoo to cover a disfigurement is understandable.

As long as the tattoo is tasteful! Have not seen so many tasteful tattoos though!

I've got loads of crap scars all over my body from various accidents and I hate them. At least with a tattoo I can have a mark on my body that I like.

Its a personal choice but I do think If someone decides to get one they should spend a long time deciding on the design and not just choose one in the spur of the momment in the shop.

The last tattoo that I got, I spent a few weeks desiding on the design and adappting it to how I liked it, and then gave it to the guy in the shop who then wanted a week to prepare for it.

I also don't care for them on women, except for Angelina Jolie. She pulls it off somehow.

Understand BG and a lot of my older mates have them (ex-maritime) have Tattoos. Most of them have just let them fade but others have had them reworked as they look ugly and when they are aged.

Knew a bloke in Bangkok that took delight in getting close to a girl and then persuading her to have his name Tattooed somewhere on her body, preferably just above her pubic line.
Then he would piss them off and start with the next conquest.
Told him what I thought about his actions and have never spoken to him since.

Some strange people and to spread their territorial scent in this manner.

Not new. Originating with tribal scarring through to the arse antlers of today. A weird dichotomy though. Marking to demonstrate membership of a group or tribe to those that feel it makes them different, individuals!

I used to know a guy who wanted to get some thai writting on his leg. He wanted something gay like "the best times are in thailand" and asked me if one of my thai mates could write it for him. I got the thai dude to write "Pom Rak Katoey" (spelling?) and even though I wasn't actually going to let him do it, it wasn't until the artist started pissing himself that he caught on that something was up.

I dislike tatts as well, and well my daughter doesn't agree with me and so she has a small one on her hip.

I tried to talk her out of having it done, but I guess when I was 21 I wouldn't have taken too much advice from my father either.

I use this joke quite often when I have mates visiting from England. Normally I'll tell them that thats how you tell the taxi driver to slow down!

I have some ink. Got it when I was 20 or so. It can be addicting. I think if I did not stop with what I have, I would have "sleeved out", but fortunately all my tats are covered as long as I don't go sleeveless.

I don't know what it is but blokes with tattoos, and those that like to to display them in a aggresive manner never cease to amaze me.
Really I don't know what statement they are trying to make or who they are trying to intimidate but they look like right fools to me.

A Norwegian mate of mine come around the other day with this new Tatt on his shoulder and it looked shit. He explained he got pissed up down on beach road and in a drunken oblivion decided to get a Tattoo and they only half finished it. Not a problem usually but he can't remember which shop or where he had it done.

Expect a lot of half finished Tattoos on some fools down this neck of the woods.

First I think that you should get drunk as a goat and then in the morning when you wake up, you have a surprise on your arm..

Had a Welsh mate of mine in Bangkok (who unfortunately passed away) who I knew for 10 years and I never knew had Tattoos covering most of his body.

Always wore white long sleeved shirts with his top button done up, and one day when he showed them to me he told me that the girls loved them.

He also said it was an addiction for him chitown and he was planning for more.

Wonder if Birds in general like Tattoos on guys?
