Books you've read more than once, because they are so good

I had the idea for this thread yesterday at 11:40 Bangkok time.

I've tried to read two books twice because they were so good and strangely they also then fell into Nick's catergory of books not finished. One was The Mosquito Coast by Paul Theroux which I adored first time through - especially the character of the father (played by Harrison Ford in the film). The second time around it just didn't grab me at all and it ruined my initial great memories. I'm not going to tell you what the other book was because I like to maintain an air of mystery around me.....Just rememebered that I also read 1984 twice - now I did like that.
Back off Margaret, you're on a sugar rush!

I refuse to contribute to this twaddle.

I watched a newer one the other day.

The Exorcism Of Emily Rose. I'm a big horror fan but that had me feeling a little nervous afterwards!

But a film that really got my skin crawling had to be House Of 1000 Corpses. It well and truly freaked me out by the sick nature of the film but is was directed by Rob Zombie so what do you expect?

Also watched the second after... Silly me!

(Sorry Danbo just wanted to share that)
    Welcome to the jungle!

I guess there's not many other jobs you can do apart from horror movie director if your name is Rob Zombie.

He is a musican too Danbo but because you are clued up with your music I trust you already know that.

Any of the Stephen King books I can read over but pretty large gaps left inbetween. I used to read his books with a torch and under my covers at night with the lights out when I was younger. No wonder I had awful nightmares.

Good choice great bloke. I read Catch 22 again recentley - I kept referring back to the film and remembering that horrible scene in the plane when the guy's complaining, 'I'm cold'.

3 men in a boat is funny - have you tried 'Diary of a Nobody' by....desperately googles....Rob Zombie....no hold on.....by George and Weedon Grossmith?

If you go to his webpage it just starts blasting out - scared the life out of the cat, made it stick to the ceiling......I didn't even know I had a cat.....

    ^That's Rob Zombie's webpage, not Adrian Mole's.....

You both obviously know of many writers then and many different books.

Can you suggest a book that will scare the life out of me? I like books like that.

    Oh sorry Danbo! Ooops !

Don't much go for the horror genre, never got through a whole Steven King book.

I'm not very good on scary. I like ghost films which scare by making you think about what might be under the bed with last week's pizza - but I can not abide those films that make you jump by loud noises and sudden movements....mainly because they make me jump....and the only time I like to jump is when I'm skipping.

Doh! CMN, I was going to say Catch-22 and I'm halfway through The English Passengers right now for the second time. So it should be double-Doh!

"Eat the Rich," by PJ O'Rourke. He travels to different countries to find out why some are doing well and others are in the dumps. The book combines three of my favorite things: travel, economics, and humor. Any type of writing I do is a blatant rip-off of PJ O'Rourke writing style. There are at least eight one liners on every page that make me laugh out loud.

You could pilfer from those in transition.

Hemingway's short stories. I'll pickup the book and choose one.

Read the book, watched the movie, ate the pie......

Sophie's world - twice, and I will probably read it again.

Any of Steinbecks books are worth a second read.

I have just reread 'The Grapes of Wrath' and 'Cannery Row'.

Saint Jack by Paul Theroux. Got the DVD as well. The book gets funnier each time I read it and the DVD isn't bad either. Ben Gazzara is great in the role of Jack Flowers.
