I answered you in post #23.

How can you have been here 20 years and not know, have you been living under a bridge?

Being called a farang here is no bad thing. Better than when living in HK, where you will be called a "Gwielo" which means "Living white Devil"

My in laws and the neighbours persisted in referring to me as 'farang' for many months longer than I thought reasonable. I was family and my name was well known so there was no excuse for their laziness. There was no intention to be derogatory but I got fed up with hearing the word. I told my wife that I was imposing a THB50 fine every time I heard the word used. I've never received a single Baht, of course, but they generally refer to me by name now. Whenever a stranger says 'farang' I hold out my hand and ask for money. Everyone falls over laughing (the joke never loses its appeal) and it's explained to the stranger that I prefer my name to be used.

There's no point in getting angry or upset about it, is there? Most Thais are still learning about farang and every action and word from us is used to create an image of the others.

    Not really.

Spent the first 14 years here pissed up and with my my face pushed up some sheila's fanny. Shit can I call a Thai bird a sheila. Probably never been done before.

Last 7 stuck here in Pattaya with my missus with nowhere to go. Mental anguish to say the least.

Oh the good old days waking up in the morning with a hangover, no money, shit on the end of my nose and a crusty ring around my gob.

Never thought about it before and your explanations don't always get my thumbs up Dr.

Farang what does it really mean.

    1. Euphoria for the slappers family. Slappers father says to mother , Good, no more have to work, we have farang now.

    2. Udon Thani village town planners: The head honcho anounces "Dust the building permission documents off". Farang coming. His subordinate questions "whats a bulding permission document".

    3. Police: Down on our extortion money quota this month and the months nearly over. Deep Shit. Fcuk, any farang around?

Just to refer to a few.

King. What have you Poms got against the Taffy's. I know they beat you blokes at home just recently but I believe you hate them more than you hate the Aussies.
And we Aussies cane you for 15 year stints.
What is it I don't understand. This English>Welsh rivalry.

I've never been referred to as farang by the wife's family. Most prefix my name with Khun. All the nieces and nephews are forced to wai and sawadee luung when I go around to visit. I always exchange wais with father/mother/sister/brother-in-laws. I know there was a negative comment from an aunt at my wedding, but she was pissed off because her daughter came back from studying in New Zealand and said she received some negative comments from Kiwis when she said she was Thai.

Well not to your face anyway.

Sinister conniving lot you have there.

    Watch you back mate.

    Just kidding,
I have also met people similar to your group. Manners and understanding go a long way and doesn't hurt when you pratice them.

If you mean the golfer, possibly 'professional golfer'. Otherwise, 'jungle'.

Loy Toy, you began this thread expressing concern about what you thought might be racist or derogatory words being directed at your daughter. Now you seem to be making such remarks yourself and encouraging others to do the same. Is this intellectual curiosity or are you doing that of which you disapprove on other occasions?

If you have any cute ones under 18 months I would be prepared to borrow them for an afternoon

I heard that kids are irresistible fanny magnets. If a bloke stands in a shopping centre holding a kid he will get all manner of luscious totty coming over to coo at the dribbling bundle. This is an opportunity to get acquainted. I could then leave the baby at reception in the short time hotel for an hour. The baby gets a fun day out too so everyone's a winner

Tiger Woods is also somebodies son and he may be also subject to racial slurs about his ancestral back ground and here in Thailand.

I have been told that my daughters are also blessed and by being a Luk Krung here in Thailand.

From my experience this is true if these Luk Krung can retain sufficient staus and within their community.

Look at Tata Young, average voice and looks, but a real novelty becuase she is a Luk Krung that signs both Thai and English sons.

Stick her in soi 6 and without the upbringing, benefits from growing up with wealth and her fame and most of the other girls would blank her.

In South Africa you have the blacks, whites and coloured. The first two looks down on the coloured and generally the same exists here and if the coloured don't have the wealth and social status to demand respect.

Seen examples of this happenings on numerous occasions.

Put it to the missus. She flatly refused Claimed I would want to go as well.

Maybe you could try using a Chow Chow? They dribble a lot and are usually easy to train. Worked well for my Welsh mate. Was at the shopping centre almost every weekend. Strange though never actually brought anything there.

Even took the Chow down to Soi 6 on occasions. Whilst inside getting blown the chow was scoffing down Koew Mun Gai outside. Never paid for the service and the slappers even fed the dog for free.

Farang is only an insult if you feel insulted by being called a farang.
    Even if you're one actually...
