I await the day when the good Dr has started at interesting thread on a topic he wishes to discuss. Until that day, I will continue to start theads on topics I wish to discuss. I'm such a bully for doing that.

yes, we know that Smegbaiting is banned, but it still goes on in dark corners of this forum.
This is the funniest part of What Dr says. "We cannot walk past....We are baiting."
I guess a fish that spots a wiggling worm on a hook (not a direct reference to me!) could say "I can't ignore it, I have to bite it because its fun, and because fishermen are bullies!!"

Oh dear. Dr Andy doesn't realise how silly he looks.

Thats exactly right! I can justify it, because it wasn't a life choice, a longterm choice. I can understand why anyone might teach illegally for a couple of months, but not for a few years. If you can't justify it, thats your problem, not mine.

I'm not claiming to be superior to anyone. I'm just asking questions to help me to understand other people's point of view and life choices. Such a horrible thing to do! So far I've been given some interesting viewpoints to think about.

There are people who think they ARE superior to me. They think they are "clever" by obsessively "baiting" me. If that is your idea of clever, then good luck to you

So are you a bigot like him too?

I have asked for justification of people who spend years working illegally in Thailand, and I'm very interested to read such justification. I have NEVER said that there is no justification, just that I can't see it myself. And when asked I was kind enough to offer my justification as to why I did it for a few months. There is no hypocracy anywhere other than in the minds of a sensitive few bigots who can't tolerate other people asking questions and with opinions that differ from theirs.

Well the title of this thread is "How do illegal workers justify their action?" You have been one, and are probably the best suited to answer the question. I am sure Dr.A and myself are not the only ones who have the impression you look down at illegal workers, despite having been one yourself. Now that you have a work permit you are suddenly "better" than these people.

That is hypocrisy - no matter what way you look at it.

You have kicked off some interesting threads, Smeggie, but on this one you made a fool out of yourself.

Oh really? I think the fool is the person who can't read and reply to the text in the OP

"I can't understand the thought patterns of Westerners who come to Thailand and spend year after year here working illegally whilst building up a social life, business, renting a longterm condo etc. Are they not worried that their entire lifestyle rests on a knife-edge, and everything could collapse and be snatched away at any time?"

Did I spend year after year doing it?
Did I try to build a longterm life from it?
    No.

I have offered my justification for working illegally a few months (ie I expected a WP, and then was not trying to build up a longterm life from it, which makes it irrelevent to the OP). I don't care if that justification is ACCEPTABLE to anyone who might read it.

Now, I stopped doing it after a few months because I decided that it would be foolish to contine for a few years, hence I want to understand other people who disagree with the judgement I made, and who choose to carry on for a few years.

Its sad that people feel the need to just fire off insults to my question. Please properly justify your insults before using them

Never having worked here in LoS without having had a WP, I find myself unable to participate in this thread - due to lack of qualifying criteria to make comment.

Strangely, I find myself in this position with regard to a number of threads currently running on TD.

Could someone PM when something of real interest happens.

So what, in your opinion, is an acceptable length of time to work illegally?

Because from the governments point of view, it is completely irrelevant as whether you are working without the required paperwork for a day or 10 years - it is still illegal!

I think you should count yourself lucky you didn't get caught, and show a bit more humility and sympathy with those who are still where you used to be.

As for me, I think all lawbreakers are scum, but please don't take that personally.....

I am sympathetic to people who are messed around whilst waiting for a WP, and I am sympathetic to people who teach for a short period (a few weeks or months) as part of visiting the country as a tourist, and hence aren't seeking a longterm vital income.

^ yes, and I'd never break the law to do something that paying my bills depended on, or put myself in a situation where I had a 12 month lease on a Condo but had no legal right to earn money to pay it from month to month...

You did not use two nouns.

You used an adjective and a noun.

    'a sidestep attack'

    Wasnt that an attack?

Giving me the personna of your enemy?
