Well from the the OP. I would not say a nationality But I would say KBR is ruining Thailand.
When I first started to come to Thailand you could walk down the street and ask a vendor how much. And of course the mark up would be a hundred percent but it would be so cheap you would not feel like haggling. Christ I ask now and I just shake my head because I do not even want to try to take the time to haggle that much to get it down to what it is worth.
And you ask what has that got to do with it? KBR personel comes over here to much money in there pocket and have never had it before. So when the vendor states a price to high they hagle a bit but end up paying 200 percent more. And the vendor he dont care at that price he can wait fifteen twenty customers till the next idiot.
Don't under estimate the power of stupid people in large groups!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Who is the KBR?
I think it's that American contracting firm with ties to the US military that wastes tax dollars all over the world.Originally Posted by bkkmadness

Sure it has flaws. And Thailand would have ended up as it has been going this way for a long time. But it has went very far in the last five years wouldnt you say?
To be honest, I have hardly haggled for anything in 5 years so probably haven't noticed. I avoid shopping in places where they give absurd tourist mark ups.
I hate haggling. If they start that shit, I just say;--"give me your best price". And if its not what I think it should be, I just walk away. Had some dickheads chase me down the street shouting a lower price with every step. The fucken idiots could have had a sale and made their profit margin if they wernt so greedy in the first place.
Who has ruined this thread?
Can a mod split it and re-title the latter half?

It's not just the "Tourist areas" where haggling is done, but all throughout Asia. Hell, my Ol' lady got a 2k discount on my camera at Robinson, something I would not have ever tried. Haggling is a way of doing business here. "Name your best price and walk away," indeed. Where's the fun in that?
No fun at all. Just the haggling agenda sets the initial price far above the competitive retail price and so most people end up paying more for their goods than they should if it were a true free market where price competition is openly posted. But they come away feeling good if they haggle the price down even if its 20% more than the genuine market price. I know many Farangs love the practice and I am sure the Thai retailers love it even more.
So can we all just agree that it's momos fault then?
Staying out of this thanks.....and I'm not in Thailand,so if it's 'ruined' nothing to do with me.
Do you mean for ruining TD?Originally Posted by English Noodles

KW on the other hand...
People need to go back to the Good Book and study it if they are to save themselves from sin in this world.
The Thai people are desperately in need of Christian values as the false God religions of Buddha and Islam have definitely let them down.
I hope some of the kind members on Teakdoor will back me up and assist me in my venture.
God Bless.
DUCK !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!

Can't help but agree with the OP, will you kneel down in front of me and receive this saving grace?
asking questions, inviting discussion is "Not Trolling"!
