Why? English has the ng sound in a huge number of words. It's some of their fucked up vowels that are tricky (unless you're pissed).

I never learned much Thai coz the Koh Phang Ngan dialect was so harsh, like Cantonese. I don't bark. I did like the double words for emphasis -- ie, mak mak. Bai leow was good. And then of course, nyet bai. Used that only once to offset a teenager who jumped me between railcars at a train station. Worked like a charm. Not for family consumption, of course. I did like the Russian connotation and wonder how the Ruskies fare in Thailand when they say nyet for no and the Thais translate it as "f*ck."

I think joy kanoi is its cambodian equivalent

I've always wondered why they have a Thai word for almost everything, but for a few things they use the English word.

e.g. supermarket, carrot, apple (or appen), brake, and clutch (sometimes written in Thai as crutch)
