Recently took a friend on holiday here to Nan for a bit of extra curricular activity.
The drive was great down from Chaing Rai to Nan via Thoeng and through sweeping roads and a National Forest Park.
But after some afternoon beers we were in the mood for some evening entertainment which was really hard to find, not really any bars in town , nor any restaurants. The best hotel was 350 Bt per night and it was empty.
So back to the river where we had earlier spotted a couple of shack like restaurant/bars and these were our hosts
We started with a big Singha that for the second time that day was off. Had to change to Chang. Our pursuit of Eiuw and Pong above finally ended with the arrival of the smoke police who had come earlier to warn of people smoking.
All the customers buggered off smartly as soon as the BiB sat down, us included.
We resigned ourselves to an early start to explore the renowned culture of Nan the next morning.
Excellent coffee at 8 am
Followed by visits to two Wats, one is unique in that it has four doors entrancing upon a four sided/faced Buddha
Another Wat close by was very pretty
and inside
This business of looking at Wat fair knackers one, so off we went to our last wat high up overlooking Nan
There was a fire on the hillside here with ancient engines and hoses and Thai guys wearing firemans hats and fags hanging out of their mouths.
We encountered some heavy traffic on the way home
Would have been a much better trip on a decent bike - 460Kms
