Unhappy The good, the bad and the pinoy

My Filipino ex's sister is working as a maid for a Chinese man with a Thai wife in HK. Apparently the Thai wife treats her like shit and she only gets 5 hours sleep a night on a cold floor with a thin blanket.

Chatting online with my ex she says if the Thai woman was educated she probably wouldn't be such a horrible, heartless bitch. My ex's sister Che is the most placid and harmless, good hearted young woman I have ever met, (unlike Sandra) and she's not ugly but not attractive enough to ignite jealousy.

Their mother, who has worked as a domestic helper for years in HK, is extremely saddened that yet more misfortune is upon her children.

Sandra, like me - is passionately angry when it comes to injustice and wants justice done but unfortunately life is shit - especially if you are a Filipino working for a Thai woman in Hong Kong.

My question is - my ex's assumption about the Thai woman's black heartedness being down to a lack of education may be just that - an assumption, but is it likely to be true and if so, why?

If the woman is a bitch to her Filipino maid because she is ex poor or ex whore and now she is neither so therefore she's a cnut because she can be, then I'm sorry but she needs to be dragged out of her HK apartment by her hair and have her face pushed into a plate of fresh dogshit with such force that it breaks her nose.

I can understand Filipinos tarring all Thai's with the same brush after hearing of this experience, I am tempted to do the same but maybe she's just a horrible cnut regardless of her nationality.

My advice: Just keep movin' straight ahead. Every now and then you find yourself in a different place."

I agreee this is a sad situation.
My experience from observing ex prostitutes in Pattaya is that once they have married a "rich" farang they turn out to be heartless agressive bitches.
I know it has been said many times but I believe the adage is certainly true in some cases, " you can take the girl out of the bar , but not the bar out of the girl"

I think it has less to do with education and more to do with character. My wife is Thai and from a poor farming family and she refuses to have a maid even though I have offered to get her one. She treaded the workers who built our house with compassion and was always bring them food and cool drinks. On the other hand I have a neighbor who's Thai wife is from a very rich family and treads her maid like shit. My wife says she was born with a "jai dum", black heart.

My missus says that to me all the time.

Yesterday it was over the charity clothes box. She want drop of more of her old clothes. I can't understand why she just doesn't buy less rather than having to give it away to poor people.

She said I have a black heart.

^^ I think I agree, it's just a simply worldly fact that there's decent people and there's horrible people that the world could do without.

Maybe it resonates with us more with Thai people because we are so used to them being nice and friendly and stuff.

She says that she herself has a black heart, like an admission? Or she says you have a black heart?

^^ We have our wires crossed.

This isn't about charity, it's about treating people like shit because you consider them lower.

I know from your posts a year ago when I was in the Philipines that you are not a cnut and your heart is in the right place.

Ultimately a character flaw but maybe it is more likely to occur in a culture where hierarchy is seen as the proper order of things.

The system forces people who want to get ahead to lick the boots of those above while stepping on the heads of those below.

By the way, you don't mention if there has been sexual tension or episodes between the maid and the husband or not?

An all-too common story. A collection of short stories published in Hong Kong is titled "Ironing the Maid". (Such incidents appear not infrequently in the newspapers there.)

"Education" may be intended in a general sense - teaching from family and society about how to conduct yourself and how to treat others. It's quite often used in this way by Asians, I think.

BTW, many Philipina (spelling that always trips me up) maids in HK are very well educated, with University degrees. Pitiful as the pay and conditions often are, it's better than can be earned at home. Many maids have husbands and children they rarely see.

    ^^

    1st line - yes

2nd line - Unfortunately, though some of us can emancipate ourselves from all that bullshit, the system and the status thing.

    3rd line - I wouldn't know.

Agreed. Being Aussie, I still feel uncomforatble dealing with cleaners and other workers acting in a subservient, "second-class citizen" fashion, despite having lived in Asia for several years.

    Heh .

Confuses the workers, too, if you don't expect them to tug their forelocks.

I agree that its more to do with personality more than education.
Having worked as a domestic for two well educated rich woman one abused her so called power the other treated me as one of the family.
Power money and status in some hands i'm afraid brings out the worst in people
Also if the maid acts even slightly subsurvient the power can increases
I feel for her scampy 5 hours sleep on a hard floor is no way to be treated

Has anyone seen the film Aurthur, or Aurther 2 on the rocks?

I loved the film not just because Dudley is (was) a wonderfully funny man but because of the way his character (a billionaire playboy drunk) treated his staff.

Watching the film I really wanted to be rich someday, and still do... This may sound a little odd but I have this fantasy that I would have a maid and she would be all subservient and nervous and maybe treated bad by past employers and initially I would show no emotion as their new employer and treat them fairly, but as servants nonetheless - then after a couple of weeks of duty I would discover it was her birthday, I would not inform her I was aware of their birthday and I would summon her from her quarters.

She would ask me what I required of her and I would say take this bonus and hand her a generous wad of cash, tell her not to call me sir and take the week off.

That said I don't think I could keep up the initial formal and cold attitude to give the surprise it's punch, I am soft as shite so from day one if she started calling me sir I would insist she relax, have a drink and tell me about herself before starting any work.

I've had other fantasies about Spanish hotel maids but not appropriate for this topic.

No, but I've seen the film Arthur. It sounds awfully similar.

    That's not odd at all.

I have this fantasy that I would have Scampy as a servant and he would be all subservient and initially I would beat him with a large stick and he would sleep with the dogs and clean the toilet with his tongue. And every day he would have to walk 10 k to the market to buy fresh food for me. Then after a couple of weeks I would discover it was his birthday and I would summon him from his quarters.

He would ask me what I required of him and I would say take this bonus and hand him 10 baht, and tell him...
