Uncomfortable or harasing? They're not bad it themselves.

One time, I made a small mistake & left a customer £5000 out of pocket. Even though it was the customer's fault, he came to the office to kick my arse & my boss, after talking to him, shat himself & actually put us in a side room alone together & it was only for the fact I sweet-talked him that I didn't get twatted.

After he'd gone I sat down & the boss made out that nothing had happened.

I don't use or like racist epithets, but a former colleague of mine made me laugh when he told a story of a job interview for one of those looney leftie London Councils back in the late 80s. Early on in the interview he realized that he'd fucked the interview up, because of the wrong experience or qualifications or something, but he knew that there would be an "Equal Opportunities" question coming soon, so he decided to have some fun and go out in a blaze of glory. The interviewer asked him what he understood the purpose of the Equal Opportunities Policy to be. He looked her straight in the eye and without a hint of a smile said, "Giving the sooties a fair crack of the whip."

Does it make me a bad person that I laughed like a drain at this story?

that's Ok then. I had that stupid idea that if someone made a mistake, it was their fault. You sound like my builder, every mistake he makes is my fault (for hiring him, I suppose)

    Germany invented racism.

Until they started gassing the jews in there was never a problem.

It's not racist to dislike immigrants anyway.

    Oh really?

Well, 'Germany' certainly was at the academic forefront to establish the concept of 'race' and categorise in a (pseudo) scientific manner, most of which has been discredited, yet the concept of inherent racial differences persists into this day and age.

Racism began the first time two organisms of different colors met in the primordeal slime 6 billion years ago.

The black amoeba was trying to steal the tires off the white amoeba's bicycle.

The Western European version of racism that we all know and love today actually began during the Spanish colonisation of central america.

The people with money wanted a church-friendly justification for making the Indians over their slaves. When they were first 'discovered' Europeans thought they were the lost Jewish tribes, but when that started not to make financial sense in Spain they decided it would be easier to say they were not actually human, and so make slaves of the lot of them.

A dominican monk called something like Caldas went over there and made a spirited defence on the part of the natives, but when relgion and doing-what-you-would-have-done-to-yourself met big business, ethics and morality went straight out of the window.

    Not much has changed.

Anyway before this black people, asians, pakis, whatever were all regarded as humans and seperated into two categories: christian and non-christian. Sure there were off-colour jokes about relative levels of civilisation, but no one would suggest that people who weren't caucasian were somehow less human. Shakespeare had no problem making a black man - Othello - an important general in the Venetian army.

There's more to the story, but I can't remember it. If anyone's interested its in a book called 'The Discoverers' by Daniel Boorstein.

Hate to say this, sweetie, but even if you have a tribunal pending, you're still supposed to go to work. Not going to work gives them a much easier & less contentious reason to fire you. Racism? (Possibly) subjective. Not turning up for work? Lazy - fire the bastard. You really didn't help yourself, there.

My Mrs lives in the Uk with me and a few months ago she called the local asian taxi company to pick her up. She then called me and asked if i would call them as they didn't understand her. I said why, what did you say? She said she had asked them to come to our home (of which they do regularly) and take her to the Paki supermarket !!

When i said "no, no, you can't say that" She said "Why not? I'm from Thailand and they call me Thai. They from Pakistan, i call them Paki"

Bless but she does have a point and one i can't seem to answer with any conviction.

^ my missis used to get 'nuggets' as in chicken nuggets mixed up with 'niggers', and on more than one occaison in the Uk went into KFC and asked for some 'chicken niggers'.

Much to my horror, since on at least one of those occasions the person serving her was a black lass.

Didn't see the point of hanging around if they were going to sack me.

    You're a bit dumb, aren't you?
    Not at all.

Well, a bit, but not this time.
