Ibu-Ibu (or the married women) are a force to be reckoned with in Indonesia, influencing husbands and living on gossip, many a new comer to a village or area has to ensure that he/she gets on the good side of these self-elected moral guardians. (I've heard more than one story where Ibu-ibu have rounded up the security guards to 'arrest' or remove females from male residences in the early hours of the morning if a marriage certificate cannot be produced)
Since arriving in this area 18 months ago, we have managed to avoid a few 'meetings' and one or two parties, but new the the knock on the door would have to come at some stage.
I had a late night call on thursday evening, the long and the short of it was that I was 'invited' to host the next weekly meeting at my home on sunday morning at 10.00am...... about 12-25 visitors might come by.
I was reasonably relaxed about it all, earlier.....
