I had a pack a day habit for 20+ years. Much of that time was struggling to quit.

For me it was about deciding not to be a smoker and not picking up the first cigarette.

It took a few years for the cravings to disappear, Eventually they did.
You have to just sit down and and hang onto your seat going through the rough bits. They do pass and it gets much easier with time.
It certainly is a fine thing to no longer be a slave to tobacco.
    Hang in there.

Nineteen days and counting since my last smoke (and co-incidently since my heart attack).

It's actually getting easier. I've finally stopped dreaming about cigarettes.

The daytime triggers seem to be fading but it's still difficult in the evenings after dinner while either watching TV or surfing the net. I find I keep reaching for a smoke out of habit. Fortunately there aren't any there to grab.

Still yet to have a drink (which has always been my downfall in the past) but I'm finding I don't miss the booze all that much, which is a blessing.

I've always heard about people pounding on weight after giving up smoking but so far so good. Mrs JoGeAr has me on a reasonably healthy diet, with a lot more green veges than I normally eat and I have tried to cut down on dairy products (full-cream milk, cheese and ice-cream). I've lost about 2kg in weight and now tip the scales at around 84kg.

I've gotta go back into hospital on Wednesday so they can have another go at an angioplasty and possible stenting. After that my heart should be as good as new and I can do all sorts of nasty things to it again (or maybe not).
