Please don't fill my glass, I can do it myself

This seems more than anything to be a communication problem. It is easy enough to say "Mai aow" or "tam ang" (I'll di it myself). Personally it depends on who is doing the filling for me and what they are filling it with.

You cant really f%ck up beer can you? So please Ms. with the short skirt, fill my glass every time you walk by. Or. "No thanks Mr. Somchai I can do it myself" (see above for Thai translation).

When it comes to whiskey I usually prefer to help my self as they usually add only a tiny amount of whiskey. But with a bit of training (which I dont mind giving the young ladies), lets say 2 glasses worth, they can usually get it right the rest of the night.

And what was this about trying to get money out of you?? I suppose if you have some type of O.C.D that say you must drink every time your glass is filled then they might take advantage of it, but I dont know of any moral issue or rule that says you have to drink just because your glass has been filled..

Maybe there will come a time when labour costs increase in Thailand and there will be nobody to pour your beer. You might have to pump your own gas into your car in 44 degree heat.
I hope it doesnt happen anytime soon.

Was a few times with germans, first timers here, waitress takes the glass for a refill, germans jump up and shout about why taking ones glass not emptied yet !

Real relief when they see it is for refilling it, not to steal it as they tought !







Hate that slow refills, away from the table, and always think about receiving back the glass of the other...
Can someone teach this nation to come with the bottle to the table and serve, as we do for wine in Europe...

as NR, I prefer to drink direct from small bottles of beer, not use a glass

in restaurants they often have only the large bottles and, as was mentioned, they place them on little wobbly tables out of reach. They tend to pour badly and make a large head, which can be annoying (unless you are German)

I suppose there are two reasons for this action; one, is that it is seen as good service, two, is that you tend to drink more beer when your glass is refilled constantly, hence more profit.
