No, actually is a real picture of the man who was in charge of the tread R & D work for General Tire in the US. Definite proof that looks can be deceiving.Originally Posted by mad_dog
The best example of this is a stable I worked at on the weekends. The kid were maybe 12 and 14. Their jobs was to meet and greet the guests and set the horses up for the riders. After work, their friends were allowed to come over and ride as well, providing social interaction with others in a formal and informal manner. Later, the stable expanded into a petting zoo, where schools would come to see rabbits and ferrets and Whitey. The children were the ones giving most of the lectures to the visiting students. I kind of got disgusted with it and just rode the horses and took groups of drunks out for a horseback ride.Originally Posted by Jet Gorgon

Err Umm,
Just to keep on topic,
NR, I think home schooling is a crap idea as your little fella needs to be with other little fellas so he can make some good mates and if you keep moving him you will fok him up.
If you isolate the little tyke you will destroy this very important part of his development so fok home schooling.
Why don't you front up the teacher that gives you the evil eye and ask her what her problem is.?
Sometimes direct action produces results and if it don't who gives a fok as she don't like you already so you got naught to lose.
Give it a crack mate.
Thanks, CSFFan - will do.Originally Posted by CSFFan
Thanks as well, Jettie. The fact that only a few people seemed to get & both of you (as well as some others did) is that this is adversely affecting him. He hates school, whereas he used to love it. He was even faking sickness to try & stay away. She was hitting him with a ruler (for whispering) & when I got angry I was told that's how they do it here. I'm a bit of a disciplinarian, but to hit a kid (with a ruler) for such a ridiculous reason? WTF is wrong with her?Originally Posted by Jet Gorgon
Two things worry me about home schooling - his Thai &, as you've mentioned, social contacts. There are no other kids that live around here (some down the main road a bit, but I don't want him playing on a main road) & as many of you know, it's just me, his Dad's dead, so there's no everyday Thai person. I'm hoping to move to more of a village situation soon, though, so maybe those things will change.
cos in thailand that will make it even worse!Originally Posted by terry57

Just trying to be helpful and sounded like a top idea to me.
NR, Maybe the best you can hope for is a new & better teacher for the next term. He must have finshed his first year now and I assume will be starting with a new class & teacher for the next ?
I have to say that all the teachers I have met and including my daughters teacher in the photo (other thraed) are brilliant, far exceeding my expectations.
^ That's what I'm hoping, PP. She's got to be a one-off, hasn't she???
Yes, he's on holiday now & having a great time.
^ thats good news then.
NR....I would also suggest you ask Wangsuda. peerriliion (sp) and ScorpioPower on the otter channel what they would suggest. They seem to offer good advice also. While I've seen what works, they're advice would be something to listen to when it comes to these issues. I personally have a great deal of respect for them on these matters and I'm sure they could answer any question you would have.
Hope it works out well, NR. The physical punishment angle still seems to be the norm in Thailand and Asia. Really sorry to hear his teacher put him off school, tho. That is bad.
Since you have a computer, it might be good to give him various side lessons in English -- reading, geography, math, history?
There are two kids nextdoor to me here that get home schooling. I know the folks take them to alot of events and museums, but I've never seen any kid friends over there. That freaks me out.
Is your son a half cast? This is very important in measuring your social level.
^ No, he's pure Thai. Does that make him/me higher or lower caste?
^^ & ^^^ Thanks
^I don't think it matters NR, just as long as EN gets his chance to insult and feel better
Thais can't stand the way farangs become hot tempered so fast. They think its very immature and caveman-like. They feel that they can control their temper better and their society demands such.
^Which explains why they continue to accept fucked-up results, endure crap service, avoid confrontation at the expense of understanding or learning ...
I like the way Thais seem calm all the time, but it doesn't come without a price.
Sure it does. Can you imagine every Thai going apeshit when he/she felt cheated/slighted/insulted/disrespected?their society demands such
The place would be a zoo.
NR. Try this for a good educational website, Learn to Read at Starfall - teaching comprehension and phonics
Brilliant site, even on dial up, my girls spend hours on it each week. The eldest one basically taught herself to read in English with this site.
Remember when my good friend (he's everyone's good friend now! ) didn't speak to reporters for a week or month or some such thing because they were asking questions he didn't want to answer?
LOL. I guess a lot of us get angry in Thailand. The heat doesn't help us keep calm.
If farangs go postal on them, thats all the provocation the Thai needs to give as good as he/she is getting ('less they think they'll lose their job for doing so). They'll scream right back.
If one is only getting paid 300B an hour then why should one give a fuck?Originally Posted by CSFFan
