Question Calling a UK phone when phone is in Thailand

My mate Mark flew in last night and rang me from the airport and it came up Mark UK which is a +44 number.

If I call the bugger on my 12Call Nokia will it be at local rate?

Nope, you'll be calling a UK phone at a UK rate. Probably best to avoid the guy completely until he gets a Thai sim card in his phone. Or perhaps only contact by email until then.

You could get an International Phone Card from 7/11, 4-7baht per min depending on supplier. Ok for a quick call and cheaper than calling the UK.

And your mate will probably be paying roaming forwarding charges to receive the call, which can be steep too, so it's doubly expensive.

I was told that the 3 network does not charge for international roaming forwarding provided you get on a 3 network in the country you are visiting.

No, your mate will have an obscene phone bill tell him to put down the crack pipe and buy a 250 baht local chip

You pay for a long distance call to England and your mate usually pays the diversion charge from England back to Thailand. double whammy

WOW, my broadband phone uses a us number for me so my calls are all out of the usa, and if you call me from Thailand then it goes to USA and then back to me here. neat huh

But with Skype or the phone dialer I use it is only 2 cents a min.

Why not phone him on the landline of the hotel/apartment he is staying in?
