Thumbs down Plastic bags - they love 'em

You gotta hand it to 7-Eleven for their environmental awareness. I just bought one single bottle of Singha drinking water and they didn't double bag, I just got the one plastic bag and two straws, which - If I ever did feel the desire to drink my water through a straw - would be lost inside if I let go, being as the straw (and it's spare) are two thirds of the length of the bottle.

Anyway I did my bit for the environment... As always I removed the bottle of water and left the store leaving the bag, two straws and reciept on the counter for them to put in the bin.

I will refill the bottle at the refill machine downstairs for a baht and a half and my only waste will be the plastic cap seal and my eventual wees.
"I'm an outsider by choice, but not truly. It's the unpleasantness of the system that keeps me out. I'd rather be in, in a good system. That's where my discontent comes from: being forced to choose to stay outside.

If you were a true environmentalist you would have put that bag to good use, they will throw it in the bin which will lead it to the land fill

When I was back in the UK in June I noticed people are going crazy about the environment and conservation. It is constantly in the media, people are always talking about it and things are different and more expensive because of it.

My Aunt who is a very concerned person got rather angry when I explained situations such as in the OP. "They'll have to", she said. "They couldn't give a toss", I replied.

Thailand is already on the rapid road to ruin environmentally.

A few more years and it will be as grotty as Lanzarotte.

I wanted a bottle of water - none of the trimmings.

If 7-Elewen were true environmentalists they would re-use the unused bags.

I'm not some soapbox environmentalist anyway, I just don't like all the crap they give you in 7-Eleven when they should after 9 months know that I don't like reciepts, bags and straws with everything I buy.

In the Bkk Post the other day it said that 15% of Thailand is made of plastic bags, or something like that.

You'd think Thais wouldn't want plastic refuse continuing to wash up on their beaches, which earn so much foreign currency.

Anyway I heard someone suggest once that instead of asking Thais to sing the national anthem to prove their nationality, just get them to repackage a food product with a plastic bag and rubber band... I was never able to do it so quickly...

They are becoming more environmentally aware - of course because somebody has told them that we are in the west and so they must as usual copy us.

The problem seems to be that with this one they can't see how it's going to benefit them financially.

It doesn'tend with 7/11 though. Food is served in small plastic bags tied with an elastic band over & over, then buying a soft drink is also served in the same way (no bottle given). They should preach to the noodle stores & markets etc before having a go at 7 eleven.

I love it when I buy a pack of large, black bin-liner plastic bags and they put it in a large plastic bag at the till.

    No problem.
It is your personalised racism people object to.

Wow, how Britain has changed, it used to be much filthier than Thailand could ever be well into the 80's.

So does that mean, as according to the British Nationality Act 1981 there is no such thing as English nationality, we're still free to call you an an English twat?

I think you can call me an English twat, but not a Brit twat. Likewise, we can call Stroller a Nazi kunt, but not a German kunt.

We should really ask Obsidian for clarification of the rules though.

A stickied listing of approved insults would be very useful, the vbulletin filters could be set to reject any non-approved insults and an auto-jail script could deal with any persistent non-compliers. CCTV cameras pointed at member's keyboards might also help enforce compliance.

You can just ask for it without the straw and bag, no problem.

The street vendors use them as they have to put the food in something, probaly cheaper and freindlier than a polostirine container.

The drinks are in bags cos there is a deposit on the bottles, you could buy it in the bottle but you would have to pay extra to cover the deposit
