    Differences between Thais and Farangs

The thread for differences between Thais and Farangs and how we deal with things that you can think of.

    I shall go first

First up we got Uncle Peter Pan and Uncle Somchai, (should mention that these are just made up names off of the top of my head and in no way are meant to be taken for people you may or may not know.) so, both Uncles are very old, they both dribble whilst eating or talking or walking, in fact they both dribble all the time, both are incontinent and one of them likes to smear poo all over everything, so what would happen?

In the UK the family would decide which old gits home to put him in and then draw straws to see who the unlucky git is who has to visit him each year.

In Thailand they would argue over which family member gets to live with and look after him.

So which would you prefer when your an old git and the highlight of your day is visiting the toilet to get more toys to play with?

I agree with you, DD, that in general Thais look after their old folk, expecially those who raised them. It is seen as a family obligation.

Where many farangs go wrong is in thinking that this means they can shack up with a Thai girl and be cared for in their old age. What they don't get is that the obligation is towards family members who helped raise them, not some lusty old Farang.

I'd have to go for the farang way, better to lose all your dignity in front of care workers who you don't give a toss about, than be spreading poo all over your own house in front of your family and friends.

I would take care of Uncle Peter Pan because even tho he dribblesa lot and does tend to shit his pants, he did give his Missus a 35 min rodgering this afternoon which is more sex than most dirty dogs see in a month, so he is worth preserving as a unique example of a geriatric sexual dynamo (I think)

Ok the next one is morals and honour.

Yesterday I took the girlfriend and some old woman to see the land, the old woman has a friend in Bangkok who is interested in buying land in Pattaya, so they are chatting away in the car about their different friends, telling each other how nice and good these friends were, basically a nice pair with lots of nice friends that help each other, but, then the differences started to show their ugly cracks between white and brown.

Now the old lady has already been told how much we want for the land, she has told us about her good close friend in Bangkok who is interested, her next question would have shocked a person new to Thailand, erm, well it wouldn't as they wouldn't be able to understand Thai, but lets pretend they understand Thai, yep she wanted to know how much did we think she could get away with telling her friend how much the land cost, ie she is going to pocket the difference, she is trying to make 200,000baht on the deal out of her friend

In general? Bullshit. I've never seen pensioners begging in my native country.

If you change "especially" to "but only those" I'd agree. The fact is, old Thais that don't have anyone they raised taking care of them are likely spending their days on foot bridges with a Big C cup.

For sure, very few do. Because of this
It is seen as a family obligation.
In other words, thais do nothing to prepare for old age other than demanding and expecting their family to take care of them when they are elderly. Thais are brought up knowing that they have no choice in this obligation, which is the old manipulating the young.

You should get out more. The wealthy ones retire to nice retirement homes on the South coast, in such towns as Bournemouth where you live, Arundel, and Brighton (for the gays). I remember an old boy I saw every day in Essex collecting dog-ends in the centre of a dual carriageway so that he could make his own roll-ups. He was 72 I think when he got run over.

Thais will pass people around their extended family, so you have to be pretty unlucky to have nobody who is obligated to care for you, but it does happen. That is the point of having children here. There are some unlucky souls though who do have to beg. There are also charitable organisations here that take care of blind and elderly people, not to mention AIDS sufferers. I know, I've visited them. Ever been to Lopburi Smeg?

The only beggars I have seen here in months have all been on Sukhumvit, and one at Mo Chit BTS. In a population of sixty million they are a tiny speck, but I can understand how tourists get a different impression.

Talking out of your arse as usual. I have a very nice life here, almost as good as in the UK, but I have no interest in sharing the details of it with people like you. Forums are my vent zone where for a couple of hours a week I can vent about shit I don't like here. Don't like it? Use the ignore function, that'll suit me rather than your bitchy little personal attacks at revenge for me daring to criticise the place you are addicted to.

Like I said, if you don't like my observations, ignore them. I know the way it is here perfectly well. Thailand's life expectancy is almost 10 years less than the UK. I wonder why if the elderly are taken such good care of in this place you love sooooooooo much.

Oh God, another Bangkok Phil in the making. There are two Thailands, the Thai side and the Farang side. What we get to know about this place is probably around 25% of what really goes on at best, although there are fools who think otherwise and are continually surprised when things don't fit their perception.

The official death toll includes road deaths. Aren't you the guy who claimed he knows how it is here?

I know of several Thais in their 60's and 70's who are being taken very well care of by their families.... and without any input from Farangs, I might add.

That is fucked up and I agree it's more common here than in Farangkensteinland, but there are honest people here too who don't try to get a commission for everything they do, and I know examples of people who live off illegal brokering of real estate in my corner of farangkenland too.
