US Army 250th Birthday Military Parade

I watched the 1st 40 minutes of the US Army 250th birthday parade

Everyone knows the US Army is the biggest baddest military on the planet so the thought of them doing a military parade seems a bit cringey at first.

But the first part was quite good. More of a museum tour of the US army from 1775 with each section in uniform of the period.

Lots of hardware that I could tick off from my museum as it rolled past.

It has been quite good so far so I will probably watch the whole thing.

I think reminding people of the history of military valour and sacrifice is a worthy activity as a remedy to several decades of negative revisionism of Western endeavour.

Today's citizens should understand the prices that have been paid in lives to build Western democracy, the greatest social system devised so far.

This is it if anybody has 2 hours and 57 minutes to spare

If they do another one they should go back to the Greco-Persian wars and the Peloponnesian wars and the roots of democracy

No, you didn’t. You watched Donny the Dictator’s sham birthday parade.

I would, but I just painted the bathroom, and I’d like to watch it dry.

It must’ve been really exciting for the tens of people that showed up to see it in person.

Two of my GGG..Grandfather's wore the uppermost uniform during the American Revolutionary war, one of them died in 1778 in a British POW camp. Another relative wrote the revolutionary phrase "No taxation without representation".

I suspect that all 3 would be rolling over in their graves at the sight of what the spoiled nepo-baby president is doing now.

Do you think they would support the idea of holding a parade to commemorate the 250th anniversary of the US Army?

^The reason I ask is that many people seem to disapprove of Trumps actions just 'because it is Trump that is doing it', rather than because the action itself objectionable

I think it was a great idea but there's room for improvement. Congratulations to Mr. Trump. Please have another parade next year.

Why would Dictator Don want to learn about the roots of democracy, I'm sure that would be too woke for him. Of course, the criteria for Rome's very selective electorate might suit him.

If he wants to salute as Commander in Chief, learn to do it properly....never mind WTF is somebody in civvies saluting in the first place. I'm sure Kim or Vladamir could come up with a uniform design fit for their friend Donald.

I am not sure of the etiquette, but I feel as commander in chief of the armed forces it is not inappropriate for him to salute.

El Trumpo already cops a monumental volume of flack for anything he does, good or bad. If he donned any form of military uniform for the parade I think the internet would go into a core melt-down of ridicule and abuse.

He was going to, but they didn’t have anything in a 66 Extra Dumpy, that covered his bone spurs.

I have to say it was like a spinal tap version of a parade, can't believe that cost $45m

I watched the rest of it. The parade is only the first 2 hours. They use famous rock anthems as the soundtrack but instrumental versions. I noticed Hegseth tapping his feet when ACDC Thunderstruck came on.

For the last 1 hour the event moves into a medley of 10 gallon country rocker band, dignitary speeches, live music, public speeches, field gun salute, army choir chorus and fireworks.

It was only during JD's speech that I learned that it is not only Trump's birthday but also JD and Usha's wedding anniversary

The thing that was noticeable overall was the focus on military valour, character and sacrifice and the toned down hardware aspect. The hardware display was mostly historic or otherwise understated and modest which was a great relief.

I was dreading a vulgar display of huge missiles (ala China, Russia, North Korea)which would really have been cringe.

Overall I would give this a solid thumbs up. Hope they do it again sometime.

You don’t have to be in uniform to salute, you just need to be wearing a hat. A hatless person can receive a salute as well by holding their arms straight by their side.

This is like trying to have a debate with your girlfriend when she is on her period.

'No, I am not going to tell you what I think. You have to guess what I am thinking from my opaque exclamations of exasperation'

I think I’ve been pretty clear about “what I think“. You just don’t want to hear it. I think Trump is an abhorrent human being, and the single greatest threat to American democracy, in the nation’s history. I think the MAGA imbeciles who support him, are for the most part, poorly-educated bigoted racists, who don’t give a fuck about making America great again, they just want to “own the libs”.
Lastly, I think you’re just a sad little internet troll, looking to wind people up.

^ Thats a pretty sound summary of it all BB. As an American I am embarrassed about what has happened to our country politically. I can't and will not even listen when Trump talks. He is a fuking babbling idiot. The educated people laugh at him.

What is a bit unnerving is what lengths he will go to to stay in office at the end of this 4 year disgrace.

I tend to the view MAGA is a greater danger than Mr. Trump. Mr. Trump isn't a well man and won't be around for his 4 years. There may be a race to the bottom to get the MAGA support after Mr. Trump ceases being president.

We have yet to find out what he has planned for the mid terms.
