Happy Ocker day, lucky fudgers living in the best country in the world. -_-
yet so many prefer here, London etc
I have had many great times and friends downunder, my Thai partner and almost every aboriginal person I met decribed it as a depply racist place obvious to amy non whites. The Helvetian Republic doesn't have the karma of oppressing and largely destroying the indigenous people.
Switzerland is the top-ranked country in the world according to the 2024 U.S. News and World Report Best Countries list. This is the third year in a row that Switzerland has held the top spot

When in doubt, look intelligent. Garrison Keillor
Oztraylia is pretty nice. I must go to Fraser Island again; it's only 3 hours drive away. Only been there twice in my life, so another trip is well overdue. But it's 4WD access only, so will have to put some pressure on an old friend with one.
A very special place ....
^^Fraser Island is an incredible place. So many incredible things in Australia.
Beautiful country. Great people who are a joy to be around. (Except for the handful of cunts.)
Happy Straya Day!
You’re mad. The lot of you!
Agree with all the above unrivalled variety of scenery and equally wierd animals and the folks who evolved there from mainly similar white background to my own.
I do realize it is more tolerant and multi racial than back in 1990s and my rare trips to places like to some Sydney suburbs like Punchbolw amd Strathfiled reveal a nice mix of all kinds of Asians and cuisines from leb to Vietnamese.
The land is so mineral wealthy , sparsely populated and distant from US and China it has a great future.
Enjoy 2 Up down the RSL or Gallipoli Club and cheers to you all and all our great Ozzies here too!!
From what I understand, over the past 2 decades or so the government has turned the place so woke that the UK, where millions of families need to choose between heat-or-eat, and professionals need to live with their parents until 35 to afford the 20% deposit for a mortgage, looks like a great place for the common local to live.![]()
^ That looks like a damn nice spot, Mike.
When you say camped, did you just bung a tent down next to yer pickup and that was it for 10 days? Presumably with a few drives into civilization to pick up food and drinks etc?
didn't bother with a tent, just rolled out my swag (bedroll) on the sand and slept under the awning....or the stars. From memory I made a couple of trips into the nearest town, about 30km away. I didn't have any luck with the fishing so had to buy something to eat ! stocked up the fridge with steaks and snags, left enough room for each day's alcohol though.
And it's a ute in Australia, not a pickup !
Would have been absolutely quiet except for this guy and his mates:

Top man, Mike :-)
That sounds brilliant. What a great way to totally chill, recharge, and love life and nature, for 10 days of doing nothing.
I met one of those dudes at a farm restaurant a few weeks ago. Lil guy had a good ol' 10 minute convo with us. Was a top lil lad. Would have liked to have stuck me finger in to his enclosure to give him a lil tickle, but wasn't sure if it would come back out again.
There are a few nice rivers and jungle-ish nature around Ubon, but don't suppose one can just do that around there.I did a nice waterfall temple motorbike tour of the place around 15 years ago, will take a look for the photos if I remember to.
There was one temple/shrine inside a cave with a waterfall cascading over it, irrc. Cheers.
In the 10 days there do you recall if you saw/met any humans at that spot, passing through, looking for a place to camp, canoeing etc, or only when you went into town etc?
no shortage of decent camping spots when you have a 4WD :
Too many sheep close to the river bank unfortunately, had to put up a tent this time.
Somewhere on the Cobb Hwy, middle of outback NSW...long exposure with a fisheye lens. Who needs 5 star resorts when you have a swag, clear skies and a million stars.
And up in the Pilbarra, NW West Australia:
But it looked better at sunset:
now I'm getting a bit homesick looking at these pics. I do miss the Aussie bush, camping here is just not the same as under the wide outback skies. I might have to relive this trip in a post here somewhere...a 49000km pub crawl from the hunter valley to the Birdsville pub and races, the long way around.

Top stuff, Mike.
I was lucky enough to spend 3.5 years in Oz, but unlucky enough to only spend 3.5 years in Oz.
I probably only have 2-3 semi-major regrets in life, and fookin' that up would defo be one of them.
There are a few ol' Aussie posters that did a damn good job of repping their homeland.
Googling 'teakdoor.com MeMock Australia Helicopter' might show one.
Nice time shot Mike. I guess it was maybe half an hour.
You can make out the Southern Cross above the polar centre with our closest neighbour just 2 bright stars to the left. And maybe the 2 Magellanic cloud galaxies to the south.
I am enjoying the sight of Venus, Jupiter and Mars in a line from west to east each evening at the moment.
