Do you have any possessions that you may own that are special to you?

Do you have any possessions that were given to you from someone special or as a family heirloom to be passed down?

I have two things that are quite special to me, my Canon DSLR camera that I bought for a discounted prize from a good friend. He not long after passed away from cancer at age 52. He was a videographer/photographer with his own business. He taught me a lot and I worked with him at times doing weddings mostly. When I use it, I am reminded of our friendship and his knowledge.

I also have a diamond ring that was passed down to me by my dearly departed grandma. It was the ring that my grandfather gave to her when they first got engaged in the 1930's. They were married over 60 years. She told me it was mine before she died, but I ended up getting it as a college graduation present after she had died by my mother. It was really something when I opened that up as I was close to her and wasn't sure if I would really get it after all because it was a very big family. May post pics after...

Over to you.... any special objects/possessions that have meaning or memory to you?

My dear dad left me not Longines presented by Mountbatten he gave to the poor but a high quality empty wallet full of hilarious news cuttings, despite losing a lung in the Burma war , several hideous scrapes he was life and soul of the party and great sense of humour which made him very popular.

My mum in addition to some fine porcelain left me a profound sense of the importance of kindness, compassion and justice, there were hundreds of greetings each year and at at her funeral.

My mutlilingual Uncle left me the diary he carried as a prisoner of war from Dunkirk to an Offlag in Belarus then a part of the Nazi Government General of Poland

I have 3 photos that I take with me:

2 are of my daughters from my first marriage. They are about 1 and 2 years old in these photos. Now these two must be in their mid-twenties. Both they and their mum 'cut me off' some 20 years ago, so these 2 photos are memories of happier times with them.

The 3rd photo is of my Thai niece who died in my arms of TB about 3 years ago. It shows her eating Moo gata with me at a restaurant near to the hospital. I had to carry her into the restaurant since she weighed only 20 Kg. But she insisted on having a last decent meal with me. She died a few days later.

Both sound like sad events, but I keep these photos as a reminder of previous happy events. Looking at these photos always brings a smile to my face

That is so sweet. Thanks for sharing. A lot of traits and memories you got from your family that money can't buy.

^Simon, Aw, aren't pics great for memories. I remember you talking about your sick Thai niece. RIP.
    Thanks for sharing, Simon.

I still have a pair of knickers from my first girlfriend, oh and the aluminium brace from her cock-up where she'd brocken her wrist. It reminded me that girls are better at wanking with their dominant hand.

A few things. A watch owned by my grandfather and then by my father. My dads medals. I also have a Victorian age funeral memento of the death of my great great grandfather.

I remember that event, has her older sister continued that way of life, or has changed her lifestyle/mentality?

Can go to a print shop, have them scan and print extra copies.

Those are really special and can't be replaced. Love that.

My father gave me a bunch of photos last year from his old photos collection and they are fun to look at. Myself as a young child and girl with other family members. Also irreplaceable mementos.

Nothing like black and white photos eh. I have one of my grandparents standing on an old steam train platform after marriage, but if it isn't in a frame it can curl. I need a frame as it is curling under.

I never thought of that, thanks Eddie. I hope I can print the curling photo as it isn't that big. Not a normal 4x6. I think it is 3X5.

She has 2 young kids now, and seems to be living either at home or with her Thai boyfriend (who is not the father of those kids BTW). But at least it is better than twerking on stage and getting pissed every evening on cheap Lao whisky (some may disagree...)

An Ami Continental Mk 2 juke box. Fully restored and in working order. A relic of a life and love in the 1980s.

I’ve several things around the house which remind me of family members who’ve passed on. A kimono my mother-in-law made which hangs on the wall. An elephant smoking set from my grandmother’s house. A diamond engagement ring passed doing from women in my mother’s family. Books my husband wrote. A family photo from the late 60s taken on the beach at Daytona.

That's great, misskit. I love Kimonos. Are you from Daytona? My grandparents were snowbirds who went there every year.

I used to have the Sailors Document (ID) for a great-great-great uncle issued in Martha's Vineyard in 1822, as well as the last letter he wrote to his brother (my g-g grandfather) before he died young in 1825.

I donated them both to a museum on the island when I moved to Thailand.

    Not much.

Moroccan bowls from my mother. That she also has and adores.

A '4' birthday badge that I had on my 4th BD, my kid had on her 4th birthday, and if she has a kid, they will have on their 4th BD. When explaining this on her 4th BD she broke down crying 'I don't want to have a baby, I don't want to have a baby'.

Model Ferraris from my early teens that I found, brought to Thailand and stuck on a wall.

And a 1000 piece jigsaw of Starry Night that myself and the kid did over 2-3 months when she was around 9-ish.

The pet rabbit took one piece, ended up peeing on it, and we found it swollen and tinted yellow in her bedding. This was put in place to complete the father-daughter-pet rabbit team, then had it framed as a time capsule, with a dozen photos and hand written notes, with a sticker on the front of the frame saying that it isn't to be opened until April 2043.

The kid will be 30, I'll be in my 60s or in the sky with Fluffy-Flower the rabbit.

The hand written note is a letter from the kid to her future self, asking if she has become a teacher or a vet or a nurse etc etc talking about her friends and her likes, some drawings of us etc.

Will be interesting to open if I'm still around, and probably quite nicely emotional for the 30 yr old daughter if I'm not, if she remembers to open it.
