I was in a caravan park in Fontainebleau, while parents were waiting for an apartment to become free. Those old enough will recall that this was the headquarters of SHAPE, where the war planning of Europe took place. I still recall the look on my Mother's face when the news came through on the radio and my father was called in to work. I heard the news on the radio, but I was too young to fully understand the implications, but my Mother's face said it all.
