The wife gave me my oats this morning!

To be honest, I like my porridge thicker, with some whole milk poured on top that stays separate from the porridge, and then have the blueberries and sliced banana sprinkled on top. And then have a spoon of golden syrup or honey plonked into the bowl at the end. I like to keep everything separate to experience the different flavours and textures, but the wife is very much from the 'stir it all in together' school of thought.

    But I didn't say anything!

    I use Quaker instant.
    Boiled water
    Small tin of Mandarin oranges
    Honey
Splash of cold full fat milk

    No Jockinese salt

It’s an alternative to crumpets. Fruit and fibre enabled a good dump the day after. Convenient, processed, but on the good side of healthy .

    That's a lot of salt.

I have porridge whenever the alternatives have run out - once or twice a month.

The stuff that takes ten minutes, not the instant, with a pinch of salt plus blackberries and honey.

They already get paid. Money for nothing? It's their job!

I stick on 10 baht so they're less likely to jam their thumb into me loaf of Farmhouse... again. -_-

You're wasting ฿10 on an order with no Farmhouse loaf so you must be in spending mode.

I used to prefer muesli to oats, with yoghurt and blueberries and honey. Easy breakfast.
Then I seemed to develop some lectin intolerance so I have cut down hugely on grains. There is a reason why things like oats are slowly digested, they are probably more healthy than not provided you tolerate lectins well. Since lectins function as a natural pest resistance it is quite probable that modern grains that have been genetically interfered with have increased lectins.
I also gave up blueberries. There is still a large bag in my freezer. Healthy, so long as you don't mind a bit of pesticide.

The fact that we are old men is surely a sign that we must be doing something right. I am nearly 65, have a full head of hair and all my teeth (well, one implant)., and remain acutely on the ball (hence getting a new work contract that will employ me until I am 70 at least)

Most importantly, I can still look down and see my dick.

Went full Rockstar and didn't even heat the milk.

    Ice cold, baby.

Spinkle of cinnamon powder, schlop of honey, drop of frozen blueberries.

    Delishous.

The ratio of milk to oats shall be assessed and adjusted.

No doubt a bit healthier than me everyday breako of slice of toast, Canadian bacon and egg. Cheers Dave-o.

Wait, so you aged 66 aren't in this 'bunch of old men'?

Why would anyone have a 'recipe' for prune juice?

Bet you look like Joe Cool with your feet in 'your' pool though, hipster.

That said, I'd not rush to recommend it. It looks a bit like ham and the resemblance ends there. Where I am it is the only choice so these days my ham and cheese sandwich is sans jambon.

    Their pepperoni is good.

Unfortunately it has risen in price lately just as much as the imported brands, which makes me wonder if it is actually made in Thailand.

If not that may be why it's good.

While it's not quite up to the standards of M&S wafer sliced honey roast ham from my childhood, Makro normally has decent sized packets of 'scrap smoked ham' at a reasonable price.

    Porridge-screenshot-2567-11-11-16-58-a

199b per kg and goes a lot farther than one sarny.

While I'm not sure I need 1 kilogram of scrap ham. I sure wouldn't say no.

Don't think Macro are on food panda. Will have to check out about their delivery options.

Makro make most of their sales to retailers and restaurants.

I doubt that they have delivery for consumers

CANCER CAUSING NITRITES IN PRESERVED MEAT PRODUCTS

Why You Should Avoid Lots of Foods High in Nitrates

The nitrates themselves may not be the problem. But nitrates break down into chemicals called nitrosamines. These nitrosamines can increase your risk of cancer.

Studies show that eating vegetables rich in natural nitrates can help reduce your risk of getting some chronic health conditions, whereas eating foods high in added nitrates can cause health risks. Why is that?

Experts think that the antioxidants (such as vitamin C) in vegetables with high nitrates help prevent their breakdown into nitrosamines. When your body breaks down the nitrates from vegetables, it makes nitric oxide instead of nitrosamines. Nitric oxide increases your blood flow and blood pressure, keeps your heart healthy, and helps your body make hormones and other signaling molecules. Foods high in added nitrates, such as cured meat, aren't high enough in antioxidants to keep them from breaking down into nitrosamines.

Eating a lot of foods with added nitrates can increase your health risks for:

Methemoglobinemia in infants (blue baby syndrome)
Development of cancer, especially digestive cancers, such as colorectal, stomach, and esophagus cancer
    Complications during pregnancy
    Foods With Added Nitrates
Some cured meats have nitrates added to preserve them and improve their color and taste. Examples include:

    Bacon
    Bologna
    Canned meat
    Corned beef
    Deli meat
    Ham
    Hot dogs
    Pepperoni
    Salami
    Sausage

Of these, the following have the highest levels of nitrates:

Ham. A 100-gram serving of cured ham has a little less than 1 milligram of nitrates. This is the source of the iconic pink color of cured hams.

Bacon. A 100-gram serving of bacon has 5.5 milligrams of nitrates.

Deli meat. Deli meat is another major source of harmful nitrates. Cured deli meats on average have less than half a milligram of nitrates per 100 grams of meat.

Hot dogs. These are among the most processed sources of meat on the market. The average hot dog has about 9 milligrams of nitrates in a 100-gram serving.

the amounts added to preserved meat produced in the eu, even though strictly regulated are bad enough, but i shudder to think of the amount of nitrites added during production of ham, bacon, sausages etc. in thailand.

its no wonder the rates of stomach, bowel and rectal cancer are increasing and becoming more common in younger people. could it be because people are too stupid to read labels and are happy to eat any old shite.
