Bodgy-bike test ride today

I cannae believe what a transformation these riser bars have made to this bike. This is the bike I have been dreaming of all my life.

I thought they might make climbing difficult but she was fine even on steep sections.

She was even OK off road although sitting so far upright takes weight off the front wheel which costs traction and stability. But I think the GT has been relegated to off-road duty only and this will be my daily ride. You feel like the king of the road sitting so high up.

Even if you look a bit weird!

I think she could make a good long distance tourer if I switched to regular forks.

Next mod will be a springy sprung fat-ass seat to cushion and protect the precious crown jewels.

I was surprised that the handle bar risers and rack still fit in Senoritas wagon

Those pannier bags are the ones I bought in 1993 to cycle from Canada to Mexico. Still going strong.

I actually got the original idea from having a spin on Senorita's ride. Hers is a small bike with the handlebars above the seat.

Instead of driving to the beach and running today, I had the brain bomb of cycling to the beach and thereby getting my cardio on the way and came upon this lovely Landrover

The path to the beach makes a nice rumbly noise as you go along it so I might make a habit of this.

Stopped at the shopping on the way back to test the load carrying capacity of Bodgy BMX. I weighed her when I got home and she was 31KG with groceries included. I climbed some steep hills with that load and she was a breeze. I do think she would make a good long distance tourer.

I think comfort is the key to endurance so why don't they build tourers like this? You pay top dollar for genuine touring bikes and you still end up hunched over with drop handlebars that you will probably never use.

I even managed to get my latest impulse buy on board from the mailbox on the way along the driveway which took the tare weight up to 35KG

Unloaded she is still surprisingly light even with racks and handlebar risers installed at a modest 15KG

I for ingenious or I for Idiot - only time will tell. Anyway I feel it is fun to bring a little bit of Thailand's unsafe load shenanigans to Australia.

Big BMX is the go and this is the main bike so I needed that one.

GT is struggling to fit with its design signature frame overlap on the seat stays but again it could work with a bit of rope or strapping.

Anyways $63 well spent I think.

Cool thread, looper. I have the same bike rack on my car. What I believe you need to buy is a crossbar for the Senorita's bike to get on the bike rack easier.

Got a front rack and comfy big bum seat fitted to the BMX to test out her touring credentials.

Here she is with some luggage on board.

The front bags were also used on that tour but were originally bought in 1981 for my first cycle tour with my dad.

But once you are used to this stance it rocks

A strange contraption emerges from the boot of Senoritas truck. She has got herself a folding e-bike. Even though I told her cycling is good for her cardio.

I jumped on it for a test ride and it is a veritable rocket ship. Twice as fast as my mail collection scooter.

Senorita was cutting a swathe and drawing approving glances on her lithium ion space-bike

We were headed into the wind but Senorita was keeping up with my hardest pedalling which was actually a relief. I had actually brought a tow-rope to tie her bike to mine so I could pull her if we hit headwinds as her pace degrades rapidly. But that was before she told me about her crimbo self-pressie

So we made it to our picnic spot in record time

On the way back she wanted to stop at the toilets and I promised to watch her new steed. I thought it would be a jolly jape to wheel it into the disabled toilet and then pretend it had been stolen when she came out. But I think I carried it a bit far by apologising and then pretending to scout the area in vain. When I saw a big wobbly tear appear and splash her pretty cheek I raced into the disableds to grab the bike and show her all was well, and I was prostrate on my knees at my naughty joke.

Luckily the sin-forgiving shop was open for business on the return leg so she agreed to accompany me in to repent.

Father O'Flaherty had been abducted and replaced by gentleman of south-asian origin.

Senorita is of obscure Indo Christian background but agreed to come up for communion. I hope that is not breaking any venal codes if she is not actually baptised but anyhoos, alls well that ends well.

I even got a box of strawberries and a 1 hour bonkers Balinese oil massage (I forgot she used to be a Balinese masseuse) back at the gaff so I think Jesus found his way into her heart of forgiveness

Not a bad idea for a red bull soap box race, you'd have to dress up as a rubber duck though.

I built a bogie when I was kid because one of the neighbours threw out the amazing red bike seat from his Ducati. I actually got it rescued from the jaws of the garbage truck crusher. The Garbo picked it out for me after special pleading. It was the coolest bogie in town needless to say.

Ducati rider's eldest daughter was to become my 1st teenage crush a few years later... but unrequited with a snog. I still remember spending entire afternoons dreaming about her and imagining kissing her, even though I never did.

Even if it does make you faster, it would take a brave cyclist to fit one to their bike. There's no denying that it would draw sideways glances on a Sunday club run.

High up on the Korat plateau. You may have seen those wind-turbines if you've driven along Mitrapap Road heading towards Korat.

If you zoom into the photo and squint your eyes a bit, you might be able to make out a small row of rented rooms and an over-engineered car porch. The empty Chang bottles have probably been cleaned up by now.
