But how f*cking sad is this. Not even enough tucked away for a ticket and a few months rent. Jesus.

on the contrary the international schools will pay it up front or book it for her, in this market it’s rare to have to claim it. They also pay first week or two of accommodation and settle in allowance or rent free loans for house costs, even cars. As Hall said above.

I just wanted to let you all know that I did find out I got the job as of today. I just need to figure out if I can afford to go, and if I want to go in January as I have some personal things happening family wise. I also have a ton of questions to ask before I make my decision.

Be careful when booking flights, some Brits bought cheap tickets UK to Sydney to find it was Sydney Nova Scotia.

Koala Humper is very different place. You may find flights via Manila or Bangkok will be cheaper if you are paying up front. I would ask the school to book removes the stress and cost and I expect they will send a stench limo and a local to meat and grunt at the airport.

Remember you seldom get a second chance to make that vital first impression, the timeless elegance of a woolen twin set and pearls is my advice for a stinguised Professor.
The clammy Klang valley humidity will yield those rosy cheeks and nose piercings to advantage, If you wish to to reveal the navel adornments and tatts up to you I would eschew all such treats as a debutante, save em for a first date with Mustafa Peak.

The school year in Malaysia, depending on the state, starts 1 or 2 January.

Your choice if you want to jump in. As others have said, even if your finances are a bit low you could always slap it on a credit card. In less than half a year you’ll be back on the right side of the ledger. After six months you should be in a groove with knowing the ends and outs of your school, who are your allies and who to avoid. You should also be settled in to your local area and know where to eat, the best cinemas, and shopping areas.

I’m a bit jealous. I’d love to go live and work in Malaysia.

    Best of luck.

I really appreciate that, Joe. It may be true that I can't afford to go, but I have other things happening here at home that may take precedence. If I don't go, I may go in July next year.

Thanks Happy, I'll keep this in mind. I had a two hour convo with one of my best friends last night, and I am not sure yet. There is some red flags with the school, and I don't want to jump into a bad situation either. I'll let you know what happens.

MM, you applied for a job, you got the job. If you back out now there won't be a second chance, well certainly not in my industry, anyway. You should have considered all the ifs and buts before applying.

Don't talk yourself out of it, cold feet are normal, and just go. What's the worst that can happen... you don't like it? If so, stay a year so it doesn't adversely affect your cv and then move on, older, wiser and with an extra year's experience under your belt.

There are a lot of things that you don't know. I was honest with the recruiter when I first spoke with him and told him, that I am not 100% on going in Jan, but I would try to. So, recently my brother has been in the hospital with a drug overdose and he needs support (I am close to him), so I jus spoke with the recruiter on google meet, explained my situation and he said that there may be more positions available in July for me there, but not necessarily in the position I was going into (EAL/Spec Ed). The recruiter also has other schools in Jan/Feb available if I am more interested in applying. The world hasn't come to an end. I may still be able to go in July. July will be better for me anyway. That's life, and that was my decision.

I was serious also about the red flags. The principal was new (only there three months). He had said one thing, the recruiter said other things, so obviously someone is not in the loop.

One who is still working supply after nearly a decade back in her home country.

Teaching special needs, with zero effort made to jolly that classroom up at all.

    It's really a bit grim.

No, it is not, they do intake in jan and july.

Anyway, I've said enough with twats like Cyrille and a few others with absolutely no sympathy for just telling you personal details about my brother that's pretty sick. I'm done explaining my life.
Why the fuck are you ^ such a twat when you don't know anything. And I'm done talking about my life with twats like you and a few others who think they are better than everyone else. Cy didn't you live in a sandpit for most of your life a hellhole, and not post one picture from there or anything about your life now?? Just bs and ignorance.
